Unfortunately Soft Spot down the road is taking all the shine away from rice culture. The plaza rice culture is in reeks of empty retail, and in general I don’t see it doing well in the near future.
With that in mind, I believe this rice culture location needs a refresh and a concept change. The Vienna location is pretty good, parking is a big issue, but it should be fine I think it’ll last.
The Chantilly location things aren’t looking too hot. If I were you, I’d change it more into a cafe of sorts, offer general food items that could be made in a turbo chef, focus on the coffee, drinks etc, less on the dessert. It may go against your values and vision but it can help. Part of having that word culture in there means you can represent anything. So I would go heavy on Filipino foods, like lumpia, or general snacks/ appetizers. You may have to get a gas line, hood, ansul system, it’ll cost you nearly 25k but it can be worth it.
The egg roll ladies on Facebook make a killing, it could be a good implementation. Because right now, Soft Spot is taking over, they have better options, more momentum, and a way better location. At the same time soft spot had 36 people inside, rice culture had 4.
Dessert won’t last there, go savory.
Just my two cents and I’m talking out of my rear end for the most part, it is what it is, but I genuinely think it could shift things, because right now in your first year, you’re...
Read moreI had one of the worst customer service experiences ever at Rice Culture in Chantilly. First of all, they were out of a bunch of items on the menu when I got there. No apology, no explanation, just “we’re out” it’s the last one we can’t make anymore, with a tone like it was somehow my problem.
But the real issue was how blatantly RUDE the staff were. Also my order was ready the receipt was literally sitting right in front of one of the workers (Girl) and she chose to ignore it and skip me entirely. I had to speak up myself just to get my food, even though it was already there. No eye contact, no “sorry for the wait,” just attitude.
On top of that, I was waiting with my dog who has epilepsy. Waiting longer than needed can be dangerous for him, and they showed ZERO care or urgency. If you’re running a business and can’t treat people with even basic respect (especially when it involves time sensitive needs), you shouldn’t be in customer service.
Disorganized, dismissive. Not coming back, I’m sure I’m not the only one who experienced this and I do not recommend this place to anyone. especially if you care about decent service or have any kind of special circumstance. They...
Read moreFinally a rice culture near us for a while. They used to be a little pop up shop in south riding and i would go there all the time. First, the ambiance was nice, cutesy and great for a little dessert date spot after dinner. Serive is quick and fast and friendly as well. Plenty of parking spaces and the store was not too crowded when we got here. If you have not been here, there are kiosk to order so you don’t have to wait for the cashier. We love that. Now lets go to the food. *The taiyaki was warmed still when it was given to us, The filling was overflowing which is great! Outside is crispy and inside was warm and sweet. Perfect dessert. *Mini and Signature Swirl Soft serve : we got panda , ube, ube and coffee and everything was great. We love it. We added the cone to our swirl which is perfect to ease off the sweetness. *Coffee and pandan drink: Not our favorite, we would not get this again as it is a bit bitter and not enough foam on top like the advertisement photo. Overall, still love rice culture.
Next time we come back we will shoot for the...
