Edit: New Brick and Mortar Location
Oishii has moved to the old pita pit location next to Horace Mann MS. I’m increasing the atmosphere to three stars but leaving the food and service at 4 and 5 stars, respectively. The Habachi meals are great, but I can’t recommend the sushi rolls. I ordered them last week and all three rolls were topped with Japanese mayo and another creamy sauce over powering the rice and fish flavor. Also the sushi rice is serve warm which is different from my other sushi experiences. See new photos.
This food truck is easy to find in the Piggy Wiggly parking lot and has been here consistently for more than a year. I ordered the chicken and shrimp habachi combo with fried rice plus a sweet potato roll. The sweet potato roll was served warm and the potatoes were cooked nicely. It had a little crunch from a batter or the nori. There wasn’t any additional sauce added inside or outside that might have enhanced the flavor. It also wasn’t served with wasabi. You might need to request it if you want it.
The chicken and shrimp combo was served with habachi vegetables and fried rice. It is enough food for two for $13.50. The proteins were cooked perfectly. The seasoning was just right. Not to salty or sweet with yumyum sauce on the side. The blend of broccoli, zucchini, carrots, and onions was nicely cooked with still some crunch which is how I like it. The fried rice was interesting. It was seasoned liberally with black pepper but under seasoned with soy sauce or teriyaki sauce. That is not a bad thing as I could have always added more soy sauce to taste. It’s just rice. No egg or veg.

Read moreFujiyama was closed so we decided to try this one because it was close and had good reviews. Don’t follow the Google map or address because it’s wrong. It’s actually further down the road by the middle school. Currently, it’s a food truck, but their sign says they’re opening a restaurant in that spot soon.
I hope they adjust their recipes before they open. Here’s some feedback for improvements. The sushi has too much rice and not enough fish. Most of the sushi items on the limited menu were deep fried and they were drown in their ‘special sauce’ which is way too sweet. If it’s good sushi, it should stand by itself and not have to be covered up by sauce. I was really craving sushi and this meal was such a...
Read moreFood is fantastic. Portions are big and filling. I’m saying that as a 285lb powerlifter. I get the shrimp and chicken hibachi with steamed rice as a heather option. My girlfriend likes the hibachi veg with noodles. I usually pick up food and its hot and ready very quickly
Yesterday my food spilled shortly after picking it up and the staff was very understanding and they remade it for me at no charge. I hope the Oishi Hibachi continues to serve Charleston for a long time. Mutual respect goes a long way and these are...
