My wife and I have been eating in and around Charleston for some 30years now. We enjoy dates at places such as Fazios, Chop House, Noah's, and Lola's just to list a few. We decided on DT prime for her 40th Birthday (08/19). I had reservations 1 ½ weeks previously. I invited a few of our close friends to join us. Upon arrival (6:30) the restaurant was moderately busy at best (no more than 1/2 capacity). We sat down and and our party had already ordered drinks. Our waiter greeted us taking our drink order. He brought our drinks and we then started ordering appetizers. He went to put in the order. A young lady bussing tables stop by to chat for a moment. She informed us that they we're out of ribeye. At first we thought she was kidding (as 3 in our party of 6 came to eat the ribeye). I then asked our server and he confirmed this. We debated leaving. We had come to a steak house that had run out of arguably one of the best cuts of meat. And this was on a very moderately busy evening. We decided to stay rather than go to another quality restaurant at this point (our mistake). The manager then came over and apologized that her steak house had run out of one of the most common cuts of beef. I then asked, if we could get a $65 dollar cut at the cost of a $50 ribeye. She replied, that walmart doesn't allow you to replace cheap groceries with more expensive groceries when they run out of items. My party was less than impressed. She left and our waiter came back. We ordered more drinks while waiting on our appetizers. This time the drinks took around 20min. to show up. Followed by our appetizers. We asked our waiter what the wait was for and he told us that the bartender also had tables. We went on to eat the beef rolls,2 orders oysters,Calamari, and Scallops. All of which we enjoyed. We continued ordering drinks (with roughly 20-25min. between orders.) We watched the workers bussing tables, but not ours. In the mean time our waiter came and took our dinner orders (no ribeye). We ordered more drinks (with a 20ish min. wait time between). Our table sat full of our empty appetizer dishes for roughly an hour. Finally our waiter cleared our table(I imagine not his job as there were bissers working). Over an hour after ordering entrées our dinner had arrived. 5 out of the 6 steaks were cooked fine w/ one being overdone. The potato stack things were gross to those whom ordered it. Our scallops with dinner tasted as though they had been seared and blackened w/season salt. Hanging with friends was great, but after this 3.5 hour disaster we we're ready to leave. We ordered dessert. It was good. Almost better than anything else they had to offer. We paid (tipping the waiter generously in cash as he was doing his best "with no support"). My friends and I would not recommend this poorly run disaster of a "steak house" to anyone. Hope this review only helps anyone make an educated decision. Surely none of us...
Read moreA wonderful new addition to the downtown dining scene! Their menu perfectly matches prime steaks with sweet and savory side options, delicious breads made in house, and an extensive high-end bar full of hard-to-find whiskeys, bourbons, and tequilas. This is the perfect stop after work for a meeting with drinks or a full five course dinner. For starters, Dave and Todd put together a great waitstaff and kitchen staff with both proven fine dining veterans and younger staff with proven records at other restaurants. They even got one of the premier bakers in the city and gave him his own "bread room" where you can see his culinary creations. I can attest that the warm bread smelled and tasted divinely. Even the butter offered a savory, whipped elegance! I chose scallops as my appetizer and they came perfectly prepared with just a touch of pineapple salsa to compliment the savory taste and silky smooth texture. For my entree I chose the 7oz center cut filet cooked medium rare with garlic mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts which were prepared and served in a thai sweet and sour sauce that essentially carmelized in the cast iron skillet. The steak was cooked to perfection and made you want to close your eyes while enjoying each bite. The mashed potatoes had a uniquely savory taste and presented in a whipped fashion yet contained both skins and potato pieces - that's my long way of saying that both were perfectly prepared. Again, the service was phenomenal and I'm already looking forward to my next dinner here where I can go a little deeper into the menu than the first cut of...
Read moreWe had a satisfying meal at DT Prime.
The appetizers were good, and while the soup was a bit sweet for French Onion, it was nicely topped with bubbling cheese and crisp croutons and the (unpictured) scallops were topped with a saving mango salsa yet were a wee bit undercooked and heavily coated in OB seasoning.
The main courses were all a hit, cooked perfectly and mostly plated prettily. The deserts were scrumptious yet visually bland, though I’ll always take flavor over flair. Still, for the weighty price of the flavors, the flair should pair and it simply did not.
The server was polite yet impersonal and quick to leave the table after a rushed question for service. We were checked on quite a few times but it just wasn’t done with grace or true service. There are some nice seating arrangements and there are some less visually appealing options, and sadly we were place in the latter. Staring at a florescent light in a bleak side room where bread is rising is not exactly what one pictures when browsing a top dollar menu, yet it is a part of one of the three rooms in service. I kindly suggest a nice screen, some plants, something, anything rather than bread racks and vinegar as decor.
All in all we were very pleased with the food and wish to return. I hope for a more authentic server and a covered up prep room no longer part of what would otherwise be an upscale...
