Well against my best wishes we avoided traveling to a farm to table breakfast place and decided to stay close to the house today. Big mistake I guess. This place was and likely will be the only bad place we have while in Charleston. We were told it was a 25-30 minute wait inside (with two tables open and no one waiting) but we could sit down immediately outside which we didn't mind despite it being a little chilly in the morning. We ordered two coffees with which we did not get any sugar and two waters that tasted awful so I went back to the truck to get my water bottle. I had to go back inside myself to get the sugar after waiting around 5 minutes and the coffees were getting cold. (Side note: the two ladies next to us had the same problem but were a bit more vocal and simply yelled to another waitress that they needed cream and sugar as their coffee was also getting cold). It took some time after getting the coffees, that were horrible by the way, for our waitress to take our order. I ordered the poached eggs Benedict over ham and sweet potato biscuits with a cup of fruit. Eggs were extremely runny and the holindaise sauce was average at best. I also ordered the plain French toast with walnuts and my wife ordered the plain pancakes as well as the standard breakfast (scrambled eggs, potatos, English muffin, bacon). Bacon was cheap and thin with plenty of fat. Scrambled eggs were not fluffy at all and dry. English muffin was not toasted and mushy. Potatos were a bit burnt on one side. Pancakes were awful and tasted like baking soda and flour (the worst). Only DECENT items were the challah French toast and the sweet potato biscuits which were average really and nothing special. All that coupled with horrible service with an attitude and it all costing 45 bucks and you have a fine recipe of a well deserved bad review! If it wasn't so darn expensive and the service was a little friendlier and attentive, I would've only dinged them a star for average food. Avoid this place and go to IHOP, you'll unfortunately be...
Read moreThis poor review is not entirely the restaurant’s fault, but it’s my review as a VEGAN. I was looking for a last minute place to get a vegan breakfast after having to fast for a medical procedure. Gnome Cafe used to be my go-to, but sadly, they closed. I did a quick search and saw that this place had “tofu scramble” on the menu. BINGO, so I thought. I traveled there from Summerville, placed my order. I didn’t have my glasses on so I couldn’t really see the small writing of ingredients for the tofu scramble. So, I confirmed with the waitress that to please make sure no cheese was on it. She asked for my side, and I said grits, and she proceeded to warn me that the grits had milk and cream. I figured she must’ve correctly assume that I’m vegan. So I opted for fresh fruit vs the grits. When I got my order, I went to my car, opened the container and my heart sank….the tofu scramble had lots of EGGS :-(. I pulled out my glasses to look at the online menu, and sure enough, it came with eggs. Why would a tofu scramble have eggs? Oh well. This is the problem vegans run into when eating at a restaurant that isn’t completely vegan. If you are vegan, review the menu carefully before ordering. I assumed a tofu scramble was just that. But, it was actually scrambled eggs with tofu. Scrambled eggs with tofu is what it should be called. Good thing I ordered a side of wheat toast and avocado, otherwise I would’ve still been looking for something to eat. Overall, wasted trip, wasted money, wasted time! Update: the three little birds salad was poor as well. It was supposed to come with beets and brussel sprouts, but it was mostly lettuce. The lemon vinaigrette...
Read moreGoogle should allow 0 stars!! I EXPERIENCED racism so hard and so bad. My colleague and I walked in last week to pick up my to go order and in the process of trying to pay, I wanted to take a bite of my food. This dirty, washed up looking server says, "Aren't you gonna be pay for that before you eat?" So I asked her, "have all these people sitting down eating paid?" She said, "Well you are a to go order." Stormed off and said, "I'm tired of people, it's been a long day!" IT was 10am! She comes out of the kitchen and tells her coworker, "I'm tired of people eating and not paying." At this point my spirit was in the twilight zone. We got into a yelling match and she snatched my food and told me to leave. Keep in mind my colleague and I were the only black people in there. I was shaking. Might as well have put a WHITES ONLY SIGN OUTSIDE! I knew it was bad when she seemed annoyed that I tried to use my phone to tap to pay. People like her, validate my thoughts of Charleston seeming like a racist city. I believe AMY came outside to apologize to us and offer us something. But what I want she couldn't give me. And Amy didn't cause this. People like that washed server should not be working in any type of service industry. Try Amazon warehouse...
