I brought in an antique, handmade, sterling silver earring to have the post on the back reattached. When I picked it up I saw that the circle and dot design on front was acid washed off. I was told it was just tarnish that was washed off and that I needed to bring in the other earring to compare. When I came back, Christine looked at it and said that she didn't see a difference but she guesses she can tell the jeweler about it. All while rolling her eyes and telling me I was overreacting and saying that she didn't see why it was a big deal. I was never rude to her but I was in tears about the situation; these earrings are irreplaceable and have high sentimental value. She spoke down to me, denied there was an issue, and didn't offer a solution - a simple sign of concern or an apology would've gone a long way in this situation.
As far as craftsmanship goes, the of lack of attention to detail is concerning. I will say that the jeweler was able to fix the post and put a pattern back on that looks similar to the original, but it will never be the same. Also, I had a sterling silver ring resized here in late February. It started to separate at the seam, starting with a hairline fracture and the progressed to full separation. When I brought it in to be fixed I was charged $20 because their guarantee is only 2 months. After this last correction, it's lopsided and I can see where it is starting to separate again. Despite all of this, I still gave 2 stars because of the jeweler at the East Bay location who helped me and was so kind and because I mostly worked with Raymond. He is professional and courteous. He's knowledgable and passionate about his work. He was quick and efficient when he replaced my...
Read moreI popped into this place b/c they’re close to my home but I never expected the joyful & knowledgeable customer service I received. They also solved a lot of problems for me. I needed a special keepsake for my 4Y-old daughter b-day. Check. Later a special “something” for my wife for Mother’s Day. She is still wearing it and showing it to her buddies! Check. Then I broke my finger and there was no way that wedding ring was going back on so they resized my ring and matched the complicated filigree of gold perfectly. Check. Finally, they fixed my ol SS watch that stopped working years ago and that was floating around in the sand on the floor of my truck. They made it work and made it AS NEW. Check! So I can’t say enough about everyone inside Sohn & McClure Jewelers West Ashley. Professional. Kind. Knowledgeable. Calming. Has both the answers and top shelf jewelry to catch any persons eye. Save your time and gas and shop at this wonderful...
Read moreI’ve been meaning to write this review for a few months now. This is the best watch/jewelry store I have ever been to. They have amazing jewelry at great prices and the workers know what they’re doing when it comes to repairs and jewelry selection. The people here are so welcoming that you might find yourself staying longer than you expected just to have a conversation. Words can’t express how nice they are. I find myself hoping my watches need repair just so I have an excuse to stop by. I would highly recommend this store to everyone. If Charleston does awards for customer service, they should win; hands down. Thank you for being so genuine and being the best at the work you do. I’ll definitely be back for any of my repair or jewelry...
