The worst part about Wisconsin Meat & Cheese? I don’t live across the street. Seriously. If I did, I’d probably eat here every day. As a Charleston local who’s lived here my whole life, I can confidently say: these are hands-down the best sandwiches in the town. And trust me—I’ve had them all.
What sets this place apart isn’t just the top-tier meats and cheeses (though they are next-level), it’s the whole vibe. You walk in and feel like you’ve stumbled into a hidden gem where Midwestern quality meets Lowcountry charm.
The owner literally sends a guy driving to Wisconsin to retrieve their freshest hand selected cheeses!
They sell raw cheese (yep, the real deal), craft olive oils, and a variety of fun, healthy sodas you won’t find in your average cooler. It’s like someone curated the best of everything you’d actually want to eat and drink—and then wrapped it in fresh bread and good energy.
Also I had a chance to chat with the owner—awesome guy, clearly passionate about what he’s building here. The kind of people you root for. If you’re into supporting local businesses that care about quality and community, this is exactly where you should be spending your lunch money.
Do yourself a favor—stop by and order literally anything. Your tastebuds will thank you. Your only regret will be that you don’t live across the...
Read moreThere is a lot to like about this place. It really feels like a meat and cheese shop right out of Wisconsin. There was a great selection and the people very friendly. We were looking for a snack and had not had real cheese curds since moving back south.
Sad to say, the store should be embarrassed for what they served us. As we ordered, the kitchen called to say the last order of curds were taken. While we waited on our curds, another table had a nice heaping pile of cheese curds. We were excited for what was to come. Well, we were shocked and disappointed with what was delivered. We had crumbs…barely the size of breading coated peas. The taste was fine and would have been a great snack had we not had the bottom of the barrel. Our meal was served in a togo container despite our intent to eat in the restaurant, so the server/cashier did not likely see the pitiful cheese curds that were server. We did let her know as we were leaving that it was not acceptable. She defended the order saying we received the full amount. I seriously doubt she saw what was served. The kitchen let her and the store down.
In the end, it is what it is. Nice visit. Seems like a family run spot. Just had a bit of a miss this time. Still, if you are looking for some nice cheese and meat options, it is...
Read moreThis little store is excellent! I have shopped there three times now and every product I have purchased was outstanding. They have a nice selection of meats, including some wild game options. I just tried my first sandwich today (turkey with goat cheese on a toasted banquette) and it was delicious and fresh. This is a perfect place to grab a unique cheese for the evening. The selection of cheeses is wonderful and expansive. If you can't find a cheese that intrigues you in this store then you should probably find another food to start eating. I do wish they had a larger selection of crackers. And considering the poor quality of cottage cheese here in Charleston I sincerely wish they sold Wisconsin cottage cheese, but this takes nothing away from my experience with the products they do offer. Now that they are selling sandwiches I hope they might offer fried cheese curds as a side! Overall I highly...
