I have gone to Anntony's for the longest time. Since 1994. In 2000, I moved to another state and unfortunately, the owner sold the restaurant as a franchise and moved to Sugarcreek. Since then, I would return to Charlotte yearly to see my family and visit the 7th street location. Unfortunately, I had noticed the food quality declining over the years. First, they stop basting and marinating the chicken in Anntony's Sauce, which is the whole point of Anntony's. Then they stop seasoning the chicken. But they still roasted the chicken and used the sauce, so it was still good.
It's 2016, and this place is now a disappointment. The only thing that is Anntony's is the sauce. Unfortunately, the quality of the chicken has gone down. I have never been so disappointed when I saw my food. Anntony's was famous for its Anntony's All-Purpose Sauce and chicken wings. The original staff would start slow roasting the chicken with a bucket of sauce and base it with a mop brush at every turn, creating chicken wings of sticky and saucy goodness.
This time, I ordered takeout blindly, expecting the same chicken I had eaten for years. Nope, it seems there's either a new owner or manager this time. They closed off the bar area, and now instead of slow-roasting the chicken, they deep-fried it and let it sit in a hot bin till someone places an order—what a disappointment. The chicken looks overcooked and old. The chicken meat is dry and bland. No better than fried buffalo wings from an old bar.
Please do not go here and head to the Sugarcreek location instead. At least they still make the chicken by Anntony's standards. Unfortunately, I haven't been there yet on this recent trip to Charlotte. But I may go tomorrow to have a good experience with Anntony's wings...
Read moreFirst of all let me say the people seemed nice but that's where it stopped. I've been here before yrs ago but the experience and food was so bad I said never again. Despite my bad experience I said let's try it again. I normally go to the 1 on sugar creek (FYI FOOD IS WAY BETTER AND MORE MENU OPTIONS) but since I couldnt get there I said I would try this again. Today 10/01/19 I went and got curry chicken (only curry they have 😢), colipso rice, and mac&cheese. I was saddened by the menu being only a quarter of what the other one has but I thought the food would be better because it was so small, I was wrong. Not sure how or why but the mac taste watery, rice was ok but I only got a baby scoop (barely had any for my chicken) and the curry had a strange after taste that left me NOT wanting more. Overall it was gross like it was years ago. This location on 7th street is miles behind the sugar creek location hands down which was kinda sad. Hell, irie vibes (Google it) on N Tryon is another great place to find REAL island food. It's safe to say I wont be back but I wish them luck its just not for me. Not real...
Read moreI should have turned away and asked for my money back when I went to the bathroom after ordering my food. When I went to the restroom they had no soap to wash hands, and when I asked management for soap they said that they will be getting some in the next 2 days, YUCK!!!!!!!! I may have eaten the employees fecal matter that day. And they were not wearing gloves nor hairnets. Greens were very sour, they had way to much vinegar. The ribs had tiny bones in every bite, Rice and beans were very dry. And good thing the portion size was stingy because the rice was DRY with no seasoning. And I do not know what I ate that day but I know they were not ribs. Do yourself a favor and save your money by passing on Anntony's Cause I know I am never eating there again no matter how hungry I may be, or even if the food was free. After eating there I would prefer to get a crappy hormone infested burger from Mcdonalds. And if you want to experience yourself go to their bathroom first to see if there is soap, and than ask for their...
