RELAX PEOPLE. One bad experience and people grab the pitchforks. This is going to sound like a biased review but I'm just a regular Charlotte resident. I've gotten pickup about 4 times, delivery about 12, and dine-in once from the Ho Ho restaurant. Once the food took longer than expected, but they always say that delivery takes 1 hour, and it usually takes 1 hour. Lately it has only taken 30-35 minutes and there was a new delivery driver, which is nice. Dining in you still wait 30-45 minutes, so um, I advise ordering ahead. .. THE FOOD: I've ordered a LOT of different food, and some is good and some is bad! Just order the right things...
BEST FOOD: -Tangerine Chicken (if you like General Tso's chicken, GET THIS. It isn't as sweet and the tangerine peels give it great flavor, just don't eat the tangerine peels lol). -Beef Fried Rice (it's thinly sliced steak, not ground beef, and they give you a huge portion. It is the best hidden gem on the menu.) -Teriyaki Beef Appetizer (Another surprise, it's not beef covered in gross sugary teriyaki sauce. It's skewers of beef like street food. Can't say it's healthy, but I love them!) -Chinese Donuts (pillowy goodness with a dusting of sugar)
STAY AWAY FROM: -Soup: All the soup is bad. Like thick goop. -Egg Foo Young. Egg pancakes that you can easily make at home that taste much better. -Garlic Sauce/Brown Sauce/White Sauce things are BLAND (ex. Flower Shrimp, Happy Family special) -Buffalo Wings: You are at the wrong restaurant if you are craving American wings... don't ask why I ordered them lol.
AVERAGE/DECENT FOOD: -General Tso's Chicken/Sesame Chicken: I like these, but I always get the Tangerine Chicken -Shrimp Mei Fun: One of the healthiest things on the menu. I get this when I'm feeling healthy. Not the most flavorful dish though :) -Crab Rangoon: These are good. Hard to screw these up to be honest. -Sesame Tofu: Not great, not terrible. -Lo Mein: Also hard to screw up. If you like lo mein then it's exactly what you would expect. I just prefer rice. -Sweet and Sour chicken - Just Okay.
Haven't Tried Yet: -Beef and Broccoli -Oil Free stuff -House Favorites
4 STARS: This is my go-to when I don't want to leave my apartment :D Way better than Domino's Pizza when I want delivery. And now that I know what to order, I always get 4-star cheap quality Chinese food. What more could you ask for? Be skeptical of the bad reviews if they have only tried this place once and ordered the soup lol. This one lady says she's been going here 12 years and had one bad experience so she posts a 1-star review? I know lots of Asian immigrants and they don't always understand American customer service, especially things like free...
Read moreHere's the thing about Ho Ho Cherry House. It's not great. Usually it's not really even good. Sometimes it's downright terrible. Most of the time though, it's just okay. If you're like me and live in the no-mans-land of Chinese delivery around Plaza-Midwood/Country Club/NoDa there are very few options and Ho Ho tends to be the best of what's available to come directly to your door. I have eaten there hundreds of times over many years and will occasionally attempt to seek new service only to find it much worse.
I'm writing this after I just opened up my container of Mongolian Beef and was immediately greeted by a burnt aroma of charred meat and vegetables. I'm still eating it because I'm hungry and busy working at home. This is what I've come to expect. I also got some General Tso's Chicken (because $16 minimum for a delivery order). It's pretty average. Still tasty enough, not crispy at all, kinda chewy and usually one of the safer bets. Egg Roll had definitely been made a while ago and kept warm. Nice and soggy.
Delivery times vary wildly. Expect your food sometime between 15 minutes and 2 hours (I'm not kidding, if you're hangry better get off your butt and go get something else or you'll probably end up yelling at a little old Chinese man or a stoner Rastafarian).
If you want good Chinese call something in somewhere else and go pick it up (or if you're lucky enough to live somewhere with better options try those). If you're like me and are hungry, have nothing else to eat in the house, don't have time to stop working and have come to terms with the quality of food you're going to get by all means, settle for the best of the worst.
Ho Ho Cherry House... Those...
Read moreUsually my go to for Chinese food as the meals are pretty delicious and they give more than generous portions. Yesterday I placed an online order an hour and a half before requested pick up time only to arrive and have to wait for 15 minutes for my food. The dollar amount on my online receipt was less than what I was charged when I picked up in store by more than $10 dollars. They had double charged me for a beef entree… finally got that all corrected and was given cash back only to get home and realize they left out the fried pork wontons I ordered. They offered me a credit but defeats the entire purpose of ordering as I was not going to go back to pick up an item they left out of my meal. Not sure what’s going on with their service as of late but they need to get with it. I will no longer be recommending this place to friends as I had yesterday. Safe to say my friend will never purchase food from here after multiple errors and...
