The food and vibe at this place are excellent. That said, we had the most bizarre experience here that couldn’t be overlooked.
I booked this reservation at 5pm so we could eat before a show that started at 7pm at PNC. I told the waitress when we were seated (table of 4) that we needed to leave by 6:45 latest.
They take our drink order and then disappear. By this point it’s 5:30 and no food orders have been taken. A guy came to fill our waters and we asked him to send our waitress over so we could order. He says he can take the order, no problem. We thanked him because we have to leave for the show in about an hour.
During this time an extremely drunk man sits at the table next to us with his poor wife and baby. He’s slurring his words and not able to walk straight stumbling in. He’s staring at us uncomfortably for extended periods of time and it was making me feel uneasy.
Our apps come and all was delicious and good. Then our mains start taking a long while so we asked the waiter when they might come out because we have to leave now in about 15 minutes. Our food comes out and they brought me a meal I didn’t order. There was no apology and they had to go back and make the entree again. So everyone at my table got to eat and by the time my meal came out we had to leave. I tasted it, it was very yummy. We asked for the check and when the manager came by he apologized because someone on staff had a medical emergency and somehow the order got messed up in the change of hands. They were kind and took it off the bill even without us asking.
Meanwhile this drunk guy gets up knocks a bunch of chairs over leaving the place. He comes back to our table and proceeds to yell at us causing a huge scene saying how awful people we are and we should be ashamed of ourselves, blah blah. He said We are so rude to the staff and literally none of this made any sense to anyone because we never said anything about a complaint.
The guy at one point hugged the manager and seemed like someone they knew. I asked the manager after if this guy who just verbally assaulted us worked there and was a friend and he said no and that they cut him off from drinking.
I’m giving them one star for service because if this is supposed to be upscale dining, a drunk patron shouldn’t be allowed to verbally assault other guests without being asked to leave. They did nothing about it which is concerning especially since it was 6:30 and kids were in this restaurant at the time. This felt like a cheap bar scene with drunk losers...

Read moreYes this spot lives up to the hype!
For years my sister has been suggesting that I visit this spot when in town. The Sunday prior to my most recent departure I had the opportunity to check out brunch at this spot.
I would highly recommend securing reservations for this restaurant. The best way to do that is to call! I attempted to make the reservation online and was not successful. My sister called and secured us a spot with no problem.
First thing to note is that this is a private membership club. What does that mean? Well, in order to dine at this restaurant you do have to pay a membership fee of $10 annually. You can register for a membership online, or include it in your dinning bill during your visit. Once you are a member, you can bring a guest to dine with you who does not have a membership. Admittedly I do not like this idea. Essentially as a person who does not reside in the city I have to pay $10 extra for my meal.
Ok, so what did I love about this spot? First of all it is just sexy! When you walk up you immediately feel the shift. It's as if you immediately feel relaxed and comfortable. The decor can be described as mid- century modern with a sprinkle of contemporary. Additionally the staff were friendly, attentive, and overall just amazing. It felt as if I was dining at a 5 star restaurant. Last, but not least- the food! I ordered the tree hugger omelet and my sister had the avocado toast. I really enjoyed all the veggies in my omelet. However, I have to say my sisters toast was amazing! That is what I will be having during my next visit!
I am so glad that I finally had the opportunity to check this spot out. I would highly recommend checking it out. I do not think you will be disappointed.
A little background on this spot! The Crunkleton made its debut in Chapel Hill, NC in 2008. This location is known as a cocktail bar. The Charlotte location opened in 2018 and includes a full kitchen. The third location is expected to open the fall of 2022 in Raleigh, NC Where did the name come from: the owner! His name is...
