I had a very poor experience. We came in in the afternoon and were greeted by the woman at the register. While looking around she said nothing and the man there just leaned on the case in awkward silence. My husband picked something out and the lady was flustered because she couldn't find it on the tablet and asked the silent guy. I assume she is still learning, but he acted like he didn't give two cents when she asked him for help. We stood there awkwardly in silence for a couple more minutes. I didn't know if I was supposed to go on with my order or what. He just kept leaning on the case staring into space and she continued to be flustered. Finally I paid and we stood there in silence again. It was the most awkward 10 minutes in recent memory.
I chalked it up to being new and had hoped the food would make up for it, but 4(4!) of the 6 "filled" crossiants had so little in them, that you couldn't call that filled. We are talking less than a 1/2 teaspoon of filling, only the raspberry and strawberry had actual filling. What a disappointment!
I want to give it another shot, but honestly after spending almost $20 bucks in an incredibly awkward transaction followed by subpar food, I just don't know if I can spend more time or...
Read moreCharlotte Agenda posted pictures of the fried, stuffed croissants the day this place opened. When I saw them, I knew I had to try them. I had an early morning meeting last week and had time to spare in the morning so it seemed like the perfect time to try them.
Their display cases are filled with delicious looking pastries. They're known for the fried, stuffed croissants, but they also gave cakes, cookies, donuts, etc. Everything looked amazing.
I had to try the fried, stuffed croissants on my first time. I got a dozen which worked out perfectly for trying one of each flavor. When I got to work, I cut them in half and I couldn't help but try four different flavors — raspberry, Bavarian cream, blueberry, and peach. I also really wanted to try apple (and let's be honest, all of them), but I had to cut myself off.
Everyone loved them. They're kind of a cross between a donut and a croissant. They're light and flakey. The filling is great. They might be my new favorite pastry.
I definitely want to go back and try their other pastries as well. This place is a must try in my book! Everyone should...
Read moreI am from Houston, and we have a local donut chain here called Shipley's. The donuts taste "different," and since it was a taste I grew up with, any other donut just couldn't compare. I made it my personal mission to find a donut that tasted like Shipley's, and was let down every time. That is, until I found Burney's. I stumbled upon Burney's and decided to try their glazed croissant with fillings (chocolate, lemon, raspberry, and strawberry). It tasted EXACTLY like Shipley's! The dough was light and tasty and had the perfect glaze, and the filling was incredible. The chocolate filling was rich and did not have a cheapy "pudding" feel to it. I was completely blown away. And they even filled their mini croissants, which meant I could try multiple and not feel guilty! The best part: they were super cheap, exactly how they should be. I'm sick of places charging upwards of five dollars for mediocre donuts or croissants. This place, if I recall correctly, sold the mini croissants for less than a dollar. Shipley's is also the same. Please support this...
