Disappointed and Discriminated - A Service Dog Owner's Experience at Cafe South
As a customer with a service dog, I was extremely disappointed and disheartened by my experience at Cafe South. Upon entering the establishment, my service dog and I were immediately met with judgmental and unwelcoming stares from the staff. It was as if we were some kind of outcasts, and it made us feel very uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, it was the manager of the restaurant who interacted with us, and their behavior was far from professional or understanding. They were rude, dismissive, and made no effort to accommodate us or make us feel welcome. It was disheartening to encounter such a lack of empathy and respect from someone in a leadership position.
I understand that not all places are enthusiastic about having service dogs on their premises, but it's important to remember that service dogs are protected by law to accompany their handlers in public spaces. Despite this, the management at Cafe South showed a complete disregard for our rights and made our experience an unpleasant one.
I cannot condone this kind of behavior or treatment towards individuals with service dogs. It's crucial that businesses and their employees, especially those in leadership positions, are educated about the rights of those with service animals and provide a warm and inclusive environment for all customers.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Cafe South to anyone, let alone those who rely on the invaluable support of a service dog. My experience was distressing and deeply upsetting, and I hope that the management takes note of this review and makes significant changes to their approach towards service animals and...

The food is average and I can tell you why I say this. Breakfast is not hard but and what I had was good, but the lack of "FRESH" kind of set me off. The Biscuits are from a can and you can tell. They taste like it. It's not hard to make biscuits. Probably one of the simplest things to make but I can make canned pillsbury biscuits at home. I don't understand how you can own a restaurant today and get things from can's and from frozen. It's so much easier to make it yourself and take little effort not to mention allows you to serve a better product. It's just being lazy and not caring about your customers. It's all about the money, not the food and not the customers.
I go out to have things I can't make at home with ease. There are other canned items on the menu like the mushrooms and other veggies. When I asked the owner about the biscuits he said it was for "constancy" purposes. Really? It's hard to mix flour and buttermilk? Are you joking?
The grits were good but they had been sitting for a while and had the "Grit Skin" on them. Still pretty tasty.
Rule one of a restaurant is if you can get it local and fresh you do. Stop ordering everything from the back of a SYSCO truck. Overall not bad but I don't see me going back there anytime soon. Nothing really awesome to write home about.
I think there is tons of room for improvement. The place is clean and in good shape now the food needs to match the offering. You can't have "HOME COOKED MEALS" on the sign and get biscuits from an can and using canned veggies...that is not...
Read moreEmbarrassingly bad. When I went to Cafe South, it had a 4.5 average off 1,364 reviews on Google Maps. Google Maps is either selling 5-star reviews or the bar in Charlotte has been set EXTREMELY low. I went here for breakfast, and it was the saddest breakfast I have ever had in North Carolina. Now, let Me say, the service was good. The waitress was kind and prompt. The hostesses were kind. That is pretty much it for the pros. None of the staff wore facemasks except for the woman who cleared the tables. That is a dealbreaker for some, but not all, so just an FYI. The coffee was cold and bland. Not sure how that happens, but the coffee was cold...and bland. The hashbrowns were cold and rubbery, so much so that I actually thought (think) it was pasta. It looked like fried linguine, and it did not taste like potatoes, so, I think it was fried pasta. The eggs were cold and rubbery, which was VERY strange because (I thought) they were cooked to order. The chicken-fried steak was just ok. I am still in awe at the number of four and five star reviews that this place has. Maybe I came on an off-Saturday...maybe the Panthers will win a Super Bowl. I do not think either is the case. If you are from out of town, you should avoid this place by all means. Your hotels breakfast is miles better, and even cold cereal from the box beats this place by a couple of touchdowns. If you are from Charlotte, well, go ahead and keep eating here so natural selection can...
