Dragon Buffet — Restaurant in Charlotte

We arrived in Charlotte NC on a Friday night kind of late after 8ish. We were there for the weekend trip to Carowinds to celebrate my daughter’s 13th birthday. After we checked into our hotel we headed out looking for something to eat for dinner. My Husband, who loves Chinese food remembered seeing this restaurant from our many visits to Charlotte. As soon as we entered the restaurant I noticed that it was clean and didn’t smell damp of musky. We were seated immediately and not required to pay before dining. That’s a great policy to have. I don’t like being treated like I’m going to dine and dash. The food was delicious and there was plenty of fresh warm food on the buffet bar. There was a lot of food to choose from but not too much food to be overwhelming. I didn’t get the feeling like they were just putting low quality bland food on the bar just to have more selections. Everything I had was delicious despite it being past 9pm at the time. The waitress was attentive and checked on us regularly removing plates and refilling our beverages. Sunday afternoon after we checked out of our hotel we dined there again because my other daughter requested it for lunch. I used to love this place. We would come up with any excuse to go and eat there. We have been really loyal to this restaurant and but over the last few years the quality was getting a bit poor. It wasn't all the time at first, just once in a while but then more often and I would have do a to go order like I have many times in the past and it just seems like every is just blah. Like they don't really care about what they are putting out there. It never seems to fresh until they are really business and then they are restocking the stuff that is selling but they mix the old food with the new food!! You aren't supposed to do that!!! You are supposed to take the old food out and put the new food in and not mix them. So the reason I am leaving this review is that I had a to go box today (I wasn't able to get there and my son went and picked it up for me). He brought it immediately home (we are @ 5 mins from location) and the food was clearly old, not just cold... The sweet and sour chicken was dried out and hard... The ribs were mushy and disgusting. I could and would feed this to the most desperate person because it made me want to be sick just looking at it. We tried this buffet on a whim, the food was mostly on par with other Chinese buffets. I was a bit concerned because some of the food didn't seem that warm, although it did taste fairly good. Many of the items were common ones that we like. Ice cream was the primary dessert available and it was bulk buckets that you had to scoop out yourself, so we opted to skip dessert. This place had several cars parked out front, but they must be employee vehicles, because the place was nearly empty. In fairness we were there around 8 pm, however also on a Friday. It actually looks like it might be a decent place from outside, but it was a bit deceiving. Inside the restaurant space itself is quite run down. They did seem to keep it clean. There were significant wear marks on the walls, decor was severely lacking. The waitress we had was okay, but seemed a bit odd, waiting for us to pay, waiting to see what we would tip etc. Seemed like she really just wanted us to go, even though it was well inside their posted operating hours.
