I normally don't review a pizza place, (i'm always paranoid about someone hawking a loogie into a following order..), but now that my issues with Hawthorne's has been more than I can count on 1 hand it's time to share our unpleasant issues. 2 separate times my pizza has been so burnt that it was pretty inedible . This last time (which was last night) it was burnt to the point where I was trying to peel the bottom off for my children who refused to eat it but I couldn't even do that because it was so burnt. I know that pizza places are busy on certain holidays such as NYE but I showed up over an hour after I placed my order for one large cheese pizza and it still was not ready. That wasn't the issue so much as while waiting for it the take out employee had checked and she said there was no order for either "Amy" or " Amelia" (my email is Amelia). She said there was an order for an Amy R. for 3 items that weren't mine. Another employee came over to assist & she was nice & helpful. She explained to me that issues their store has when ordering online on Hawthorne's website via Doordash (even though I was picking it up) & how she wouldn't be able to refund me because its through doordash etc etc... so I agreed to wait for the pizza. She told me either way she would refund my order because of the whole mess. She then went to the back and I couldn't see her anymore and another female employee possibly a manager came out and said "an order for Amelia". I took my pizza home and lo and behold here are the pictures of what I waited for. Other issues with hawthorns have been missing items & I ordered online a Greek salad and when I arrived home to my dismay I had a salad that had ham on it. I drove back to hawthorns explained I ordered a Greek salad and the girl was extremely condescending and talked to me as if I was an idiot showing me on her end how that's what I ordered when in fact I didn't, (I don't eat meat). as far as missing items they were things like salad dressing for a salad not like a side of sauce which you can live without but when you order a Greek salad you expect dressing. So with all of that said I have forewarned y'all and shared my issues and hopefully if you were to order from them you don't have any problems. Food is expensive & i'm posting this so hopefully management can make much needed improvements. I will post an update if my problem gets resolved. I was promised my pizza being comped, we shall see.
I had the unfortunate experience of ordering a calzone from Hawthorne's recently, and I feel compelled to share my extreme dissatisfaction.
Craving a calzone and enticed by Hawthorne's late-night service, I placed an order with the expectation that my hunger would be appeased promptly. I arrived five minutes early for pick-up, hoping to enjoy a fresh, piping hot calzone. However, what I received was far from the New York-style calzone I had hoped for. Upon opening the box, it was immediately evident that the calzone had been overbaked. The dry, burnt crust dominated the entire experience. As a native New Yorker accustomed to the delight of pillowy dough and gooey cheese, Hawthorne's rendition fell egregiously short.
But the disappointment didn't stop there. The calzone lacked any semblance of care in its construction. The heavy-handed distribution of peppers in the middle of the calzone resembled a reckless mound rather than a thoughtful arrangement. The result was a poorly crafted and unappetizing mess that left me questioning whether any consideration went into preparing my order. To add insult to injury, if there was any ricotta in the calzone, it was virtually nonexistent. The dryness persisted throughout, making every bite a regrettable experience. The attached photos speak volumes about the lack of attention to detail and quality control in Hawthorne's kitchen.
In all my years as a consumer, I have never encountered a pizzeria claiming to be New York style that could disappoint to such an extent. Hawthorne's not only wasted my money but also my time and effort. This experience was nothing short of a disaster, ruining what could have been an enjoyable evening. I strongly advise against ordering from Hawthorne's if you have any expectations of a genuinely satisfying New York-style calzone. I'd gladly drive an extra 20 minutes to dine at a more competent establishment than subject myself to such...
Read moreI have been coming to this location since it opened. The food is great. The beer selection is good as well. I have ordered for pick up, sat at bar and dine in. The facilities are designed well to grab drinks, watch a game and lounge. I have witnessed several trends with their service. The bartender (female) is always running around like her hair is on fire although the restaurant isn't busy. She never knows how to operate the TV to find the games. She has a difficult time multitasking to the extent acknowledging the people she is servicing becomes a challenge. While at the bar, I have been able to witness many customer complaints around wrong food orders. I will say they always seek to correct the situation. Today I walked in for a pick up order. I was told to go to the bar. I walk in and I wasn't acknowledged. I am standing at the bar waiting to be greeted. A group of men walk up for drinks and they immediately get taken care of. I have to go out of my way to grab someone else to grab my order. Bartender still doesn't acknowledge me. She continue to serve additional orders from the other gentlemen and although I have my food i am waiting to pay. There service really needs to improve. The food is pricey but good. The service needs to be exceptional. As of right now their needs to be a culture change. I could extend more grace but the restaurant...
