The Jefferson Theater is a smallish local venue that occasionally draws national talent, along with a steady stream of local bands and artists. I regularly make the drive from Roanoke to catch some of their bigger acts, and would come more regularly for the others if I loved closer, because I genuinely love this venue so much and want to continue supporting it. Parking options are plentiful and a fairly short walk away, though all are paid lots/garages. As for the venue itself, the small, intimate stage allows for a closer look at the artists and their bands, and photographs well if you are one of those obnoxious people like me who always has to take phone pictures during a set. They have a bar upstairs and a seating area, but I confess I've never utilized either. The acoustics are pretty well amplified in the space, though, so I imagine that the upper levels would be just as comfortable for someone who doesn't feel the need to get as close to the stage as possible. I will say that, since it's a college town, the crowd at this venue skews a little young. I usually find myself one of the older members of the crowd, and while I don't really mind I know that can make some people self conscious. Overall, though, this venue is a gem, and all of Central Virginia is...
Read moreWe came here for the Mark Broussard show on 2/28/25. This was my first time here and I would absolutely come back. We purchased tickets online ahead of time. I was hesitant about GA but saw the other reviews and would agree there is plenty of space but I’m sure it does get packed for certain bands. It was not elbow to elbow for this show which was nice. The floor in GA is sloped which was awesome and why are not more places like this? What a great concept. Getting in to the venue was a breeze. Staff were all friendly and courteous. The bar just inside the lobby was crowded but there was another bar down under the stairs which you access through GA. There is a place to sit down in there if you want. The sound was great.
One thing I will say is, some man standing near us stomped his boots on the floor after EVERY song. Just because the floor is wooden doesn’t mean we need to act like we are on the high school bleachers at a football rally. It doesn’t sound loud in the video but trust me it was obnoxious. See my video for an example. Applause and yelling will let the musicians know you are having a good time there’s really no need for boot stomping at least at the show I was at.
This is a great smaller space for...
Read moreWent for a concert yesterday, beautiful architecture and sound quality. It was a great experience, with a refreshing closeness to the bands, and I hope to see future concerts there. If your band is going to be there, you won't be disappointed.
The main floor slopes down from the stairs to reach it toward the stage, allowing for anyone to be able to clearly see the stage. It wasn't open during my concert visit, but there is at least one balcony and maybe even a higher balcony as well. From the lobby on the main level was a bar to the right, and the bands had tables to the left for selling merchandise. This level had tables for disabled to sit at and enjoy concert experience, with stairs that went down to the main floor.
Bathrooms in lobby, with sign saying additional available. For male restroom at least there is one seat and one urinal, the seat is not segregated if you are the shy kind.
Parking was available via city lots and garages nearby, and plenty of shops and restaurants to enjoy in the historic mall area. This includes an attached grill, although we didn't check it out...
