This is probably the nicest and most unique place I have ever stayed. My husband and I came to Charlottesville for my 30th birthday and as a nice trip together before our baby is here, and I don't think we could have stayed at a more perfect place.
The DeLoach family has restored these buildings to their former historical glory and filled them with character that enhances their homey and eclectic charm. The entire weekend we raved about how beautiful the house is! The innkeeper Candace is so warm, welcoming and accommodating, and makes you feel at home and well taken care of.
We stayed in the Edward Butler room, the largest room in the main house, which had a whirlpool tub in the bathroom and a fireplace in the bedroom. Every decorative detail was curated to add to the cozy charm. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine, beer, tea, hot chocolate or hot apple cider. Later they brought an incredible cheeseboard to the room that we snacked on all night and still had trouble finishing! I also want to highlight that even for an old house, you could hardly hear any street or downstairs noise from inside our room. More kudos to the DeLoach family's building restoration efforts!
Breakfast was such a lovely experience, tables and seating laid out in an intimate setting in the dining room into the living room. They provided a three course homecooked meal prepared by a pastry chef (I forget his name unfortunately) that Candace has known and worked with for almost 30 years. I saw on their website that they have won Inkeeper of the year in 2015 and the Breakfast Cooking Contest at the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia Conference in 2016. I really cannot express how much thought and care Candace and her team put into their services for their guests.
The Inn is also in a perfect location! It's nestled in the private and historic Court Square just a few minutes walk from the Downtown Mall. Being pregnant I really appreciated the accessibility the location provided, because we were able to come back and rest in our room in between walking, shopping and dining out.
Thank you all so much for making our stay so special! This short trip will forever live in our fondest memories because of the experience...
Read moreThe Inn At Court Square is centrally located in Charlottesville and while we had not major problems, it was incredibly over-priced for both the value and accommodation quality. That said, the food at breakfast was some of the best breakfast we have had at an inn or B&B.
We paid a 30% seasonally discounted rate of $359 plus taxes for one night in the Susannah Fowler room. Upon arrival, there was Arabic music blaring as we walked into a quaint colonial sitting room and it was apparent the person hired to check us in was either not well trained or well prepared to welcome guests. Her boyfriend had taken up residence on the front couch and was clearly her focus. She offered wine, but then had us go into the kitchen to pull it out of the fridge to pour because she cannot touch the wine bottles. Then she gave us our key and left for the evening.
The room itself is fine, but there is no way to control the temperature. As a result, my wife and I were essentially baked to a near slow death overnight with the temperature reaching near 80 degrees. The windows were of no use as they appear to have not been open since the 18th century, and the pancake flat pillows were definitely exemplary of the colonial period, but not conducive to comfort. So while we benefited from some form of dehydrating cleanse, we slept not a wink.
The breakfast was absolutely delicious. The quiche is exquisitely done and each of the breakfast offerings was incredibly prepared and presented.
If I could stay somewhere else and come for the breakfast, that would be ideal. Of all the accommodation offerings in Charlottesville, I'd look long and hard at alternatives before choosing The Inn at Court Square unless you consider what I've described great value for the discounted...
Read moreSome positives, but if this stay hadn’t been discounted for the winter special, not worth the price. Attention to detail could use improving. ||Positives - Staff was friendly and accommodating. Great location. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was functional and spacious. Bathrobes were nice touch. All the major items certainly fine.||Cons - No pleasant outdoor seating area. Entrances looked worn and tired. Office space where I was greeted looked disorganized and a mess. The worn and cluttered look of the room, antiques in every inch, was not to my liking. No individual room heat control. Parking in back lot not ideal. No electrical outlet visible and easily accessible in sitting room. When unplugging lamp from baseboard outlet, the whole outlet fell out of the baseboard. Kerig machine in hallway but all decaf coffee. Was told that previous night both the front and back doors were left open by a guest, safety concern. Complementary wine in my opinion was not newly corked. Breakfast was good, but selling it as a 3 course meal is over generous. Yes, there were three items, but the mini muffin and very small bowl of blueberries hardly seem like a worthy addition. But yes, the quiche was fabulous.||Atmosphere and worn cozy can work for many, but...
