Great show but not such a great experience with the website and staff. First of all, the previous assessment of purchasing parking passes is correct. I paid $10.75 for the event parking pass and the charge would have been $6. That would not have been a big deal if it had not been for the seating. I purchased a seat through the website that was supposed to be in the pit. I don’t know the theater that well except from movies as a kid and truthfully did not even open the mailed ticket until I was parked. When I got in the theater the usher checked my ticket and told me I was in the back. I told the usher that was not the seat I purchased from the site and her reply was “yeah, a lot of people have been saying that.” That was it. No I’m sorry. Nothing else. As it turned out some friends found me an empty seat near the front after intermission but, frankly, the entire experience reeked of old time Charlottesville, the Charlottesville I grew up in, the Charlottesville where in certain places, including the UVA campus, it was made clear you were not welcome unless you were of a certain class. That being said, it’s a great venue with good sound and a wonderful ambiance. I went there virtually every Saturday afternoon for a movie in the 60s. From now on if I am going to a show there, I will purchase my ticket directly from the box office so as to know exactly...
Read moreI took my autistic, 3.5 year old daughter here to see Laurie Berkner. Of the 1 hour show, she had 4 complete meltdowns. The employees were nothing less than gracious in their of handling the situation. They were more than accommodating and really did try to help in anyway possible. Hats off to them for their professionalism & compassion towards a wonderful child who sometimes has problems coping with things/situations that we may take for granted. Because of such a great staff, we didn't feel that we had to leave the concert, and although she was singing & dancing for only 20 minutes total, those 20 minutes meant the world to me and more importantly to her. She carries around the pictures of the concert & explains that she saw Laurie Berkner. Things don't always turn out as positive when facing the demons of autism, but this venue is just amazing and I cannot thank...
Read moreStellar theater with spacious seating, a fabulous lobby to gather and visit or enjoy some popcorn... and yes, they have a well supplied refreshment area. The restrooms were located upstairs or downstairs from the lobby, however, there is an elevator available. The theater was built in 1933, making this space a historical gem that was renovated to its glory. The access to the entrance is located on a street that is accessible only to pedestrians with many shops to keep you occupied while awaiting the doors opening. There are 2 garages nearby as well as a paid parking area around the corner with descent prices. Several fantastic restaurants are literally steps away. The show I saw was The Music Man, and the talent gathered on stage was without a doubt, second to none. I highly recommend this if you ever get to...
