I am highly disappointed in this place. I went to this restaurant tonight to order my curbside order, which if I am not mistaken, is advertised on a huge banner outside on the building. Not to mention, it's one of the first things you advertise in bold on your website!!! I was told, "We're actually too busy right now with the game on to take to go orders." Blown away, I asked for a manager. I was put on hold and then was told the same thing. I asked to explain the difference between me walking in as a paying customer and me calling my order in. I was told a bunch of excuses. If I had walked in, I would've been seated and served no problem. BUT god forbid you want to stay safe from the crowds and still pay for the same food and pick it up. He even admitted there was zero difference in the wait time. I was simply told no because they didn't want the burden of taking an order over the phone. I would've been the same person, ordering the same food wrote on the same ordering pad, paying the same amount for my food. But AGAIN, you can't be served on the weekend unless you come inside or sit on their patio. The manager even told me after I pointed out eating there vs me paying and picking it up was no different, that I could place my order. I refused seeing as we already drove off and were too far way after being put on hold to turn around. He knew that what they were doing was wrong. So first off, you're refusing customers who want to be safe and/or who have other reasons for not wanting to come inside (we are traveling, have dogs who hadn't eaten yet and we were not dressed warmly enough due to the temps dropping at night.) You're turning away a paying customer with no actual excuse other than discrimination against those who want to order curbside, WHICH YOU ADVERTISE FOR. So way to go. You made a terrible impression on someone trying to enjoy your town, you lost my business and you showed that a "game" was more important to your time than your customers. Not good business at all. I suggest taking down your sign and removing it from your homepage on your website if you're going to put your priorities in a game and customers...
Read moreDear Kardinal Hall,
I did not know when I moved to Charlottesville that there would be a true German Beer Hall feel. I have fallen in love with your vibe. The way your staff get to take care of everyone like a true team. The way we can sit at a table for hours, playing games, drinking with friends, or working out of the office, and not be worried about taking up a server’s section. I truly feel at home here. You provide the space and time I need to truly unwind, relax, or get work done.
You are so good with kids. I don’t have any, but everyone in town with kids seems to have figured out that this is the perfect spot to bring them, while also adulting. Thanks for providing us with a great stock of games, and even Bocce! And also letting us bring our own games if we prefer, and not judging us for being level 11 nerds.
Your food is SO GOOD.
Can I tell you something, Kardinal Hall? I can’t drink beer. My beer-loving partner is always happy with your choices, and you never let him down. You also never let me down. Wine, NA options, and seasonal cocktails that hit the spot… You’ve got it all.
Remember that one time that we came for that work thing with all the people? Yeah. That was like… fifty times. Because you are the perfect place for happy hour, scheduling a private event, or watching The Game (Insert sport).
Your formula is amazing. You are crushing it, Kardinal Hall. Let’s be...
Read moreKardinal Hall is a German style Biergarten with big beers, great beers, bright beers, and sour beers. You can get a comically large liter-sized glass that will be hard to lift when you start. Proper glassware is used, and people there know how to talk about and explain beer. I saw a server from Beer Run there on a recent visit, and thought, "Wow, this place is pretty amazing if the Beer Run guys come here on their day off". I found out it is. It's expensive to live Octoberfest. For a liter of beer, it can cost $10 or more, but you probably won;t get two. The food was delicious too: German style Brats and sausages and condiments are plentiful. I plan of getting a pretzel next time after having the spicy sausage I ordered on a pretzel roll, which was soft and delicious. There's ample outdoor seating, and before I came here, I'd see the place from Preston Ave, and say "I need to get there". The final reason to go is the games. Lots of people were enjoying sportball on the TV, rather loudly, and it was festive, but not typically my kind of thing. Much more to my liking was the games chest. We played Jenga and Chess, and had good beer, and good food. I still have not played Chickpig yet, but this is the place to do it. It cost about $50 with tip for a couple of sandwiches, a couple of pints, and a liter. If I didn't have such a damn good time, I'd say it was overpriced, but it was...
