This was my first time trying Moe’s. My husband and I really love trying different places that offer BBQ. It’s the one thing we truly enjoy doing together. However, we did not enjoy this visit.
Now, we understand there are stress levels with Covid-19 and we are aware of the demand placed on employees... We ordered BBQ chicken, that neither of us knew had pickles and slaw on it... the Mac-&- cheese was very dry and so was the cornbread. Now, being a non- picky eater I tried all of the food I ordered... wasn’t impressed... but I tried it. My husband... well did not... When we went to talk to the manager to possibly get our money back on just his platter, he was very unprofessional. He stated he would take care of us, but we kept the platter for over 20 minutes. Not sure what that has to do with the anything. He then followed with criticizing my husband for not trying it... Well, not many people like pickles and slaw, so of course he wasn’t going to try it.
Just a side note, if you have an unsatisfied customer, just graciously thank them for trying or well in my husband’s case staring at the food and give the customer back his or her money... plain and simple...
Therefore, if you had of just graciously fixed the situation this review would be different. Instead, due to the manager’s unprofessional behavior other people will know how he did absolutely nothing for the customer.
So, my fellow google review friends... if you decide to visit Moe’s Original BBQ on Ivy Road, know that if you are unsatisfied with your plate of food, you must return it immediately for the manager to tell you he will take care of you, and then ultimately won’t. And then will follow suit to criticize you for not trying his dry mac-&-cheese and undercooked chicken... Such great customer...
Read moreI first heard of Moe's when my boss at a sports event job I used to have used them as the caterer for a tailgate we were hosting for some group before a UVA football a few years ago. The owners, Mike and Ashleigh plus an employee worked the event for Moe's. Mike and Ashleigh were EXCELLENT to work and it was the first time I ever heard of and tried sweet potato casserole which I couldn't get enough of that day! The food that day was great and I finally made time a few months later to get to the restaurant itself. They have a nice variety, menu items that change daily specials, everyday sides and special sides.
Moe's pulled pork BBQ taste great and even though BBQ isn't my favorite of foods this is my favorite BBQ restaurant. The prices seem to be pretty reasonable and the Ivy Street location is convenient to all of UVA's athletic venues (especially Disharoon Park, Klockner and JPJ). I've even walked there and back from Disharoon to get food to go in between double header baseball games a few years ago.
During one of the 2018 season football games I saw Moe's had their van at Scott Stadium as a concession option. When I saw they were cleaning up as it was the fourth quarter and then this year during a game I remembered to look for them. I tried the nachos with ques o cheese minus the jalapenos. They were so good I was craving them until I had them again at the next game! There was plenty of ques o on there, they didn't skimp on it at all!!
The only two things I wish for these friendly folks is 1) that sweet potato casserole was a regular side 2) the nachos they serve at football was a menu item at the restaurant. If you are looking for good BBQ caterer then...
Read moreI need to preface this with and I'm trying to be as neutral as possible because there was a family member who was employed at Moe's, and we heard how good it was through him.
He hasn't been employed there for some time, and this was the first time I'd ever actually ate in the restaurant. You order the food and then they'll call your name out when it's done. It's a very simplified process. It's a nice sized restaurant with plenty of seating, however when we were there it got really busy which is a good sign. There were just as many people sitting in as there were people coming in and taking out food.
The person I was with ordered the pulled pork sandwich with macaroni and cheese and had a beer. She really enjoyed the food.
I order the smoked wings with mac and cheese and an order of fries. I don't know what I was really expecting when I ordered the food. But I was pretty blown away by the flavor of the wings, and how crispy and juicy they were. The French fries had a flavor that I can't describe but they were really good as I don't know what type of seasoning was put on them. The mac and cheese appears to be homemade and it is also very good. The portion size of the wings was perfect. I wish the mac and cheese and french fries were a little bit bigger, however I was very satisfied with my meal. I would definitely go back there and the price was very reasonable for what you get. The only issue I have with the location is the parking, as it is cramped and if you don't get there at the right time you may not get parking and may have to find elsewhere to...
