This is a Charlottesville institution! If you drink coffee, tea, or any type of beverages, you'll be so happy you come here. It's way better than than the giant coffee franchise that everyone knows and I won't mention it's name. All of their drinks are very well made with great care and deliciousness! The ambiance of the downtown mall Mudhouse is superb (all of the Mudhouses are wonderful!). Whether you're meeting friends to have coffee or you're writing your great American novel, you won't be disappointed with the atmosphere. This is one of the busier Mudhouses and can get a bit noisey, but it's also a great place to sit outside and people watch. I love their Matcha lattes they are very well made here! I've never been disappointed by any of their drinks. They also do a really great iced coffee. You just can't go wrong. There is a nice offering of light food as well for a quick bite. If you live in Charlottesville, you've probably already enjoyed the Mudhouse. If you're visiting, the Mudhouse is not to be missed! I highly recommend the Mudhouse you won't be...
Read moreMaybe I just came on a bad day, but I genuinely don't understand the appeal of this place. The espresso was charred beyond recognition and the oat milk in the oat milk latte my group ordered was similarly burned. The cold brew tasted like it was the prior day's drip coffee thrown in the refrigerator overnight. To top it all off, one of the baristas was running between tables chastising customers for not putting their masks back on after every sip of coffee. I completely understand requiring masks while waiting in line or walking through the common areas, but if a business owner can't tolerate people not wearing masks even while they are sitting at a socially distanced table drinking coffee, then that business needs to just go back to takeout only. It made for an unpleasant atmosphere.
Bad coffee, bad vibe. I recommend going to Milli Coffee Roasters instead. It's a four minute walk away and provides a much better product...
Read moreWe were passing through Charlottesville before our tour of Monticello and were looking for a coffee shop with a historic slice of life and charming vibe. We stopped at the right place. Our barista was a coffee connoisseur who educated us on flavor profiles. We're not that picky, so we both had the caramel latte and got some banana bread. The only thing I would say is that it's a little pricey, around $30 for the two of us. However, it was good coffee and a great atmosphere in a great location. We loved the warm, cozy decor and the paintings of different places. It looks like a popular place because there were consistent customers, but it never felt crowded because of the openness of the room and people getting things to go. I recommend dining in because of the chill vibe. If we're ever passing through, we'll...
