tl;dr: This was my first time eating here. Food was excellent and exactly as ordered. Service was very good, but I didn't expect to have to ask for chips at the table. Atmosphere was fine, but the back of the booth seat was broken where I sat and there was food and silverware on the floor next to me the entire time I was at the restaurant with neither employee who walked near me giving it a second look.
Details: I was surprised to see they don't have very many burrito options, but I just ordered the standard burrito and customized it by removing the pico de gallo and adding the three meat option (not mentioned on their website). I was also surprised to see how the burrito was served. It came wrapped in paper and cut in half. This is different from most Mexican restaurants, but it tasted excellent. I will mention that the way it was served did make it seem like less food that I would normally get at other Mexican restaurants for the same price.
The service was very good, but again, at other similar restaurants, I'm used to chips and salsa just being brought to the table without asking. When I was seated, I was asked what I wanted to drink and then the server walked away to get it. When she came back to ask what I wanted to eat, I had to ask about the free chips and salsa, but she did bring them over after that and they were very good.
The atmosphere overall was fine. Unfortunately, the booth I chose to sit in had a broken seat back which was uncomfortable. Additionally, on the floor next to me just to the side of the walkway, there was some spilled food and dirty silverware. I could understand if it had just fallen and a staff member would clean it up right away, but I was at the restaurant for over half an hour and no one gave it a second look. Staff walked past it multiple times, and the restaurant was not busy. There weren't more than 5 other tables of people the whole time I was there.
All in all, great food, albeit slightly smaller portions, and I will...
Read moreWe stopped in on a quiet Veterans Day for lunch. It was highly recommended by a friend for whom it is her neighborhood place. There is a large Hispanic community in the larger area of Chaska and Shakopee, and there is a competing restaurant right across the street. I would gladly stop by here again.
It looks and feels like a family restaurant, from the owner and the staff serving us. I had a plate of three steak tacos, served with a green chili sauce. A young server asked me if I wanted a small cup of their homemade hot sauce, and I said yes. Before I started my meal, I dipped my fork into the fresh looking sauce, and right away my sinuses cleared and the tip of my tongue went numb; I knew that I had been presented with the a fresh, homemade product, with peppers on the Scovill scale!
My tacos had a nice little touch with lots of fresh parsley. The steak was cut into very tiny pieces and grilled on the flattop. Usually the diner gets cubes of steak, which are both difficult to chew along with the rest of the filling, and which are also not always uniformly grilled. In these tacos, this small touch makes the filling and the taco easy to handle, and I dipped the taco, along with the filling into the homemade hot sauce, and it was quite thrilling for my taste buds.
I can't recall what my two family members had, and looking at the online menu, it was a bit hard to correlate with the menu we had in our hands. The menu is like a book, as the owner said, and it all looks inviting. My companions all took leftovers for home. We had a small, plain cup of coffee, and that too was well done, and not presented as an afterthought. For the quality of the food, the friendly service and cozy atmosphere, the prices present a really good value. I only spared a star on the atmosphere because we weren't in there with a full place, so it was a bit hard to judge, but if you are anywhere in the area, do stopy by La Hermosa...
Read moreThis was our first visit here in over two years and usually patronize Patron's. I ordered a taco salad and inquired about the sour cream because the last time I was there the sour cream was more of a thin drizzle of a white sauce. The lady that took our order seemed to take offense at the question and said "Of course we use real sour cream but we have to make it thin so we can more easily squeeze it on the food." I said "I really want a big blob of sour cream." The taco salad came. There were none of the usual things that come on a taco salad that I am used to but that could be because I don't often eat authentic Mexican food, which I understood this to be. No tomatoes, no black olives, no sour cream, (only a very thin drizzle of it) no onions and I didn't see any cheese but a lot of rice. I decided to take it home and "doctor" it up with some other items and asked them to wrap it up for me. The bill came and I noticed there was a $4.00 charge for steak. When asked about the charge I was told that it was for the ground beef because ground beef cost the same as steak. I told her I had never had a taco salad that came without some kind of meat. She told me, no meat was included in the original 8.99 price and any meat was extra. (I must have missed that on the menu) I said that it was the worst taco salad I had ever had. She said "I will take it off the bill and then you will NOT take it home." I agreed and left. It was a complete disappointment. It's back to Patrons for us- They put meat in their...
