While out for a drive in the convertible we ran across Southen Social in Chaska on Google. It had some great reviews so we stopped in for dinner. It was a Saturday around 5:30 PM when we arrived and the parking lot was full. Inside was packed but they had space on their outdoor patio. The patio is tastefully decorated and features a huge arbor overhead and lots of flowering plants. There is a large area outside that has outdoor couches for people wanting to hang out while having a drink. I started by ordering a southern heat Paloma. It was a very creative and refreshing drink with a zing. My wife had the shrimp with grits and she said the flavor was great, the shrimp was perfectly cooked and the grits were cheesy. I had the new Orleans shrimp bowl. The flavor was amazing, I highly recommend. Inside was a bit loud so being outside on the patio was refreshing. Even though this is over an hour away from our home this may be a frequent place to bring friends for a destination dinner. Southern social is instantly one of my...
Read moreSouthern social is chaska’s newest restaurant and we were eager to check it out. We went on a busy Saturday night and only had to wait about 10 minutes for our group of 3 to be seated.
We started with drinks and apps. The spicy plum (tequila and mezcal based) was excellent. The craft old fashion was also very good. For apps we got the wings, smoked with sauce on the side - they were juicy and great for dipping. Our other app was the hoecake, it was ok but the pancake itself was a little too sweet.
For dinner we had the meatloaf, half chicken, and the loaded grilled cheese. The meatloaf was generously sized and the potatoes and gravy were nice complements. The only critique on the meatloaf would be to grill it before serving like many other restaurants do to add some texture. The chicken was good, lightly breaded and nicely fried. The loaded grilled cheese was full of cheese and meats, a little hard/messy to eat.
Overall a great addition to Chaska that we are looking forward to going back to try...
Read moreI don't go out to eat by myself as some places won't seat a "party of one"-it was the first question I asked when I walked in. The restaurant was recommended by a family member as their son works here. I hadn't a clue what to order-my waitress was Irene-super super busy but she recommended the "Rhubarb Sangria" for starters--who would have thought that this was the best drink I had had in ages-a hint of tanginess-but super delicious. I happened to catch my grandson Blake if they serve shrimp-he suggested a couple of options and I went with the Shrimp and Grits-wow-the grits were velvety smooth with cheese-with corn-bacon-a few tiny pieces of scallions-the jumbo shrimp was cooked to perfection - I seriously couldn't stop eating but I did end up taking some home. If I didn't live 38 miles away-I'd come down and treat myself every weekend!-Thanks so much to Irene and grandson...
