Food was on point. I've been craving Cuban food lately, because of my years living in Miami with my family (who are Cuban). They have all of the basics that are Cuban comfort food. The yucca fries are especially good. However, they only get 3 stars for a few reasons. First, I've been craving a mojito and this establishment has lost their liquor license? How does that happen? I definitely expected a drink seeing how Cuba is so closely tied with the rum industry and it's on the menu. Second, the waitress didn't speak English. I know this might be immersive for some, but it's annoying to me when I'm there with a friend and my young son who don't speak Spanish. My Spanish is bad to begin with and I was trying to translate. Could be intimidating to the casual Chattanooga diner. I'll definitely go back and I want to try some of the cigars in their humidor. Edit: The owner's response would make sense if I had spoken any Spanish, but I didn't. Our definition of fluent is obviously different, because my fellow patrons couldn't understand our server. I definitely wouldn't want her to lose her job, but practice speaking English might help. It's interesting that they didn't address the liquor license, or when/if it would be renewed. Or even apologize for giving a menu that has drinks on it that aren't even available. But instead wanted to try and correct me about your server's language proficiency. Thanks for the response. PS: I just now looked at some of the negative reviews, and noticed the owner likes to argue with people who leave a bad review. I probably won't come back. Seems like this restaurant can't improve on any negative feedback. Changed to 1*. To the owner; people take time to write reviews to help establishments. They don't have to take time out of their schedules to let you know your restaurants shortcomings, but they do so hoping to help YOU. They don't get anything out of it. Most importantly they are not personal attacks, they are opportunities to improve. Listen to your patrons.

Between 1953 and 1959, Cuba went from being a tropical vacation destination to a communist country ruled by Fidel Castro. Following the disastrous Bay of Pigs, the 1962 Embargo prevented Americans from getting Cuban cigars or sandwiches unless you happened to live in Miami. Why the history lesson? Because the name of this restaurant had me chuckling at the cleverness. When I found myself on the North Shore looking for food, I knew we had to give it a try. Warning, parking sucks. But we are sort of used to that in Chattanooga. There is a lovely covered patio with plenty of seating and atmosphere. The menu is filled with interesting sandwiches and pasta and seafood. We started with plantain chips. They came with a garlic compote for dipping. I had beef empanadas. These little pastries were filled with seasoned ground beef. The Elena Ruz turkey sandwich went well with the Stella Artois. They had a nice selection of bottle and draft beer. Our server was a disappointment. She was prompt and perfunctory. But she was unfriendly and wasn't very good at listening to the customer. Not sure what she was in such a rush to get to. We were her only patio table.

I've been wanting to come here for several years because I love Cuban food, but just never had the chance with life and a pandemic getting in the way. Finally ate here before heading to the movies. I ordered the braised oxtail with plantains and black beans and my friend ordered a Cuban sandwich. I also had a guava cider. My food was excellent, and there was plenty of it, both meat and plantains. The oxtail was generous and had a lot of meat on each piece, which was tender and delicious. The plantains were cooked to perfection with the perfect caramelization. The black beans had a ton of flavor. My friend said her Cuban was also good. I did expect this place to have a more upscale feeling. It was more hole-in-the-wall like, but the decor was beachy with cool light fixtures, like you were in a food shack on the beach in Cuba. They advertise as a rum bar on a sign out front and in the name on the menu, but I saw zero liquor in sight, only beer and cider, not even wine, which was disappointing. The service was good, and our food came out super fast. I'd definitely eat here again.

First of all, I'd like to state that I've been going to Embargo since it opened. Food and service has always been great. My coworkers and I started going regularly to Salsa Wednesdays last summer and always had an excellent time. Emily was our server at the time and service was always quality.

Unfortunately, the past two weeks we have gone to Embargo have been the worst I've ever experienced. On Valentine's day, our server (apparently the bar manager) was not attentive at all, and rude when she did come to the table. I got cut off after ordering 3 shots of tequila, while my coworker was still being served after 5 shots and 2 cocktails. I was still very composed and not overly inebriated, especially compared to my coworker. On our tickets at the end of the night, tequila wasn't even listed on the receipt but multiple cranberry drinks they said were a "special code" for what we ordered.

Tonight, the service was even more sparse; taking about 30 minutes to put an order in and even then, we had to seek out any server to get their attention. Not only that, but somehow an order of yucca fries ($5), two tequila and orange juices, and a shot of tequila came out to $50... That means that a drink with only two ingredients were $11 each ($10 for tequila and $1 for orange juice) and a shot of tequila was $10. Those mixed drinks were more than any cocktail on their menu, and trust me they weren't pouring Patron.

I've spent most of my working life in restaurants, so believe I am not one to complain or write bad reviews. But there is something in my gut telling me there's something going very wrong at Embargo. It's just simply unacceptable, and I'll be happily taking my...

Really disappointed, I'm a Cuban born , from Miami Florida , Cuban cousine specialist , food taster online service , I visit more than 300 restaurants in the last 4 month , owner of 9 restaurants , revew service for network marketing ,,, The manager was so arrogant , they drop the food and don't even bother to ask you anything else, my beer glass was empty , no body ask me if I need another one or something else , the food was a mess , nothing to do with the real Cuban taste I was really bad treated , people cleaning the kitchen when food was getting prepared , the servant with the long hair totally free , the cooker with no glove and no mask at all , preparindg the food , no attention to the customer that's why they take so long to eat or be attended, apparently the manager underestimate the customers that eat in that place , he tells me that I don't like the food because mybe I have no money to paid , he was discussing with me about food , and restaurant laws , I left the food on the table and I paid for it , the ceviche was discusting , I have to dress up a little bit my self to get to the flavor ,,, adecuate flavor ,,, presentation really poor , attention to the customer poor I will never going to get back to that place again , I will be sure that any of my friend have the same mistake no way . No way thank you !! This actitud in front of the customer is the actitud of the lunch box truck , and the food the same . Please replace the manager and replace your cooker . Patheric service and...
