I will preface by saying this is long... I was encouraged to visit by family who dined and was pleased with the food... Myself and my Significant other visited last night... Greeted by 2 friendly hostesses and sat. Our Server arrived to the table and I asked for a recommendation for a drink and he responded with "I don't know, Ill ask" When he returned, my partner requested to start with apps and wanted the Bacon wrapped scallops and we were told "all out tonight" and no other suggestion offered... something I would expect in such establishment. So he decided to go with the Lobster bisque... He said good on flavor, a little thin, but it was good... We also ordered the tableside Ceasar for 2, and the gentleman whom prepared it was AMAZING!!! explained every detail as he prepared it... Loved his energy... We ordered the Ribeye with Mash and green beans, The Lobster Ravili Entree, a side of Mac and cheese, Side of Truffle Fries and Side of Broccoli Rabe.. we also ordered a Sinatra Highball and Cosmo 38 for Drinks... The food arrived...well... the rabe didnt..I asked and he said... "yeah, there isnt any" oh ok... carrying on... The Steak.. Cooked to perfection..seasoned by the GODS... Mash and green beans great... Mac and cheese, good... not great..but good... Truffle fries... was underwhelmed by truffle... surprisingly since they offer Truffle throughout menu... and the Lobster ravioli... We ate a total of 1.5 raviolis.. because it seemed to be a commercial Rav with the same lobster bisque atop.... The Server never returned, well until .. Ill tell you in a sec... he would of seen we didnt touch the Rav.. The bus girl however is very attentive..sweet and courteous... So now... after no plates on table, all food is boxed and bagged... The server comes to the table and asks if we are going to have dessert... My Other half giggles (in disgust) and declines... So the server with the check in hand... squeezes the check down on table between my 2 glasses and ME!!! not MY OTHER HALF...where the table is completely open... but literally almost touching me, if I was any closer to the table... He essentially gave me the check.... Well, thats where my partner finally lost it and said we would never return... He even said, maybe he saw my very expensive purse atop the table and thought I was funding this dinner..lol.. But its rude.. So my Partner takes out his Platinum Amex with arrogance to pay the bill that was given to me and we were bid a good day... We would however, return for the Steak and the Gentleman whom prepared the Ceasar Salad... and that alone... Def not our Service.. and maybe our Server was having a rough day, But in an establishment like this.. Where we were sampling Appetizers, Soups, salads, entrees, sides and drinks.. where you see that we were racking up the bill... Id take a shot of espresso, pinch my cheeks.. something... personally, and put on the charm... Sadly, it wasnt what Id thought it be... I chose not to post this to my Social Media following, which is subjectively large, mainly in part because I dont fault the restaurant..but the service it self. Yes, the Ravioli was sheer dissapointment... But my taste buds didnt like it.. Someone may love it.. No reason to bash anyone per say.. and not on a platform where I have traction and attention..
I like the atmosphere, and intimacy of Steak 38... I hope that this was just "one of those nights" for...
Read moreWe are new to the Philly/Cherry Hill area, so we asked around for anniversary dinner recommendations...Steak 38 did not disappoint! From the moment we sat down with Dawn at the bar, we realized what a special place, Steak 38 is. It would remind you of a throwback, speakeasy type of spot, as it's dark and lively inside. Dawn was so pleasant and welcoming and had great cocktail and wine suggestions. Of course, we had to have our obligatory pre-dinner martinis, which were large and made perfectly. We looked over the wine menu while sitting at the bar. It's not a large list, as you'd expect with a steakhouse, however, it has every varietal you could want, including some big California names. The prices are VERY reasonable, and if you have a question, Dawn can assist. The bottle we picked was excellent, and when we asked to have it decanted, they were happy to do it. Speaking of our table, we we sat in the Sinatra room, which cracked us up, as it's so Jersey, which we LOVED. Pictures of Frank and the gang on all the TVs, with dark curtains and lights hanging all around. It was romantic, as the tables are not on top of one another, so you feel relaxed. Samantha was our server, and she was fantastic! She was very efficient, yet not pushy and well-versed on the menu and dishes, making suggestions, which we appreciated as this was our first time here. We started with the table side Cesar salad, where you have a say in what goes into the salad, (for us it's yes to anchovies, and not too much parmesan). Miguel was quite the 'mixologist' and prepared it beautifully! It's massive though, so keep that in mind when ordering, as you must order it for two. The lettuce was pre-cut and extremely fresh, and the salad made with the best ingredients. This was well worth the price, trust me, and it is necessary if you're a Cesar salad fan! We then ordered the dry-aged ribeye, bone-in, which we shared as well as creamed spinach. The meal came with mashed potatoes and haricot verts (green beans for those not familiar with the name), which we didn't even realize we were getting. Not a huge fan of the creamed spinach as it had too much parmesan cheese for our liking. The food quality and presentation are exceptional and very well-priced for the level of service. Everything was honestly so well-prepared, and the service staff is on top of every course! They work like a well-oiled machine, coming and going yet not overwhelming you. Samantha brought us a small bottle of champagne, which was on the house, for our anniversary. Such a nice gesture, and we enjoyed it immensely! My husband insisted on the carrot cake for dessert, which we had no room for, but still managed to eat almost half of, lol. It was moist and the cream cheese frosting was not too sweet. The perfect ending to a wonderful anniversary meal! Dawn, Miguel, Samantha and the crew, you made our evening special. Thank you so much! We will certainly be dining with you again! Oh, and before I forget, complimentary valet parking is offered, which I...
Read moreI’m sorry but those who have read my reviews know I tell like it is. When something is great I will say so. When it’s not I will share the truth. I have first hand knowledge of the food service industry both front of the house and back of the house. I have been to hundreds and hundreds of restaurants both here and abroad. I’m listed as a VIP on OpenTable and I know food. I also have culinary training and have been preparing great food for decades. Sorry to say but this place was dreadful from start to finish. Asked for club soda with lemon. It tasted like stagnant swamp water. Told the server and asked for ginger ale was the exact same swamp taste. Dirty and unclean lines from the bar. Asked that my rib eye steak be done Pittsburg medium. It came out sadly burned and raw inside. So we tried again. One would think you would do a fresh steak and let it rest. Nope we just tossed in some canola oil and fried it more. Terrible. Really terrible taste. No seasoning cooked in oil. Oysters, none bigger than a quarter for over $3 each? Prices here are way out of whack. A $200 meal for two people and it was horrible. Our server was a nice guy. Everyone else walked around like drones. Expressionless and miserable. At one point everyone including us were freezing. It was because one of the servers (young skinny shaved head) kept coming into our area and turning down the air. When people complained about it being so cold no staff person could figure out what to do. How about raising the temp? Gee. We left with cold ears, hands and feet. Might want to think about the guests experience next time! The lighting is terrible too. Like a dungeon. I guess it’s somebody’s idea of trying to make it be classy. It’s not at all in any way. On the website it speaks about needing to dress properly…now that’s funny. We saw shorts, sneaks, flip flops and what could have been pajamas. There is no “dress code.” If you are thinking this place might be good to try just do yourself a big favor and keep driving. There are so many choices near that are far better. Sorry to say but it...
