At one point, I was in love with The Boiling House. I used eat there 2-3 times per month. In February(still in the pandemic), I ordered by phone then went to pick up my order. While waiting at the hostess station for my food, one of the cooks came to the window with an uncovered order. He DIDN'T HAVE ON A MASK! I couldn't believe it! When the hostess, walked away to assist a customer at a table, I walked over to the window to look in the kitchen. No one in the kitchen had on a mask. I mentioned this to the hostess when he returned(the one with the heavy accent) and he said, "Well, I have on a mask." I said, "You are not in the kitchen cooking food though." I requested a refund. He told me that I could have a credit but not a refund. I asked for a manager but he refused to call one. I told him that I will no longer eat from the restaurant because the kitchen staff don't wear masks and we are still in a pandemic. While talking to him, another employee walked out of the bathroom(no mask on) pulled his shirt up over his nose and walked in the kitchen. I told the guy that if I don't get a refund, I'm disputing the charge with my credit card company. He ended up refunding my card. I reported them to the Camden County Health department. When I spoke to an agent from the Camden County Health department said that they would visit because the kitchen staff should have been wearing masks.
Update on 5/14/2021: After the owner responded on 5/14/2021 in an unprofessional manner, I will retain my stance that I will never eat here again. Claims by the owner:
1)They had just opened when I ordered. This is not true because I was there in the evening and they opened at 2 p.m. I still have the receipt for the refund with the date time and stamped. Also, there were 3 tables with customers eating their orders. The unmasked cook came to the window with an uncovered order for another customer. How could you have just opened?
The owner claims that they don't know what health department I spoke to. I spoke to Matt at the Camden County Health Department on February 22, 2021. He told me that they would visit The Boiling House for an inspection and coaching because the cooks should have been wearing masks. He was actually quite annoyed about it when I told him what happened. I still have the voicemail from when he returned my call. I also have his phone number.
The owner quoted an excerpt from the CDC about cooks not being required to wear masks while cooking over an open flame. New Jersey Government CONSIDERS CDC guidelines when making decisions during this pandemic but the governor makes the final decision. For example , New Jersey will require continued use of masks indoors even though the CDC says that fully vaccinated people don't need to wear them. According to the Camden County Health Department in the State of New Jersey, your cooks should have been wearing masks. Also, other restaurants with open kitchens in New Jersey have cooks cooking over an open flame and they wear masks! This incident happened at the beginning of February.
4)The owner said, "I should reach out to the ownership before attacking them online." For one, I requested a manager but the employee did not get one. Telling the truth about my experience at your restaurant was not an attack it was a warning to other customers. I have the right to...
Read moreMy friend wanted Dungeness crab 🦀 legs so I decided to take him out for Father’s Day to get some Dungeness crab 🦀 legs. I watched the review from JL Jupiter on YouTube, and various social media posts and thought to myself we need go!
This was our first time visiting The Boiling House located in Cherry Hill. We walked in and was immediately greeted by 2 hostess. The place was pretty busy.
We ordered the Dungeness Festival at the cost of $155.00 and Seafood Fried Rice at the cost of $24.00.
Dungeness Festival 8 FULL clusters of Dungeness Crab, with your choice of 2 add ons which we ordered:
(1 dz), Shrimp and (1 lb), Mussel (1 lb). Also includes 2 Ciabatta rolls, 4 corns & 4 potatoes, 1 link of Andouille sausage.
I just realized the ciabatta rolls were never delivered with our meal. Ugh, love me some fresh bread!
Review: The crabs look beautiful and tasted fresh. It was seasoned perfectly and not overpowering. I could taste the garlic - yum! The size of the crab legs were a nice size. I will say the crabs were not warm which I was a little disappointing.
The shrimp 🍤 were large and seasoned well. They were cleaned and had the shell on them along with the tail. Definitely enjoyed.
The mussels were seasoned and pretty good as well.
The meal looked beautiful in the large bowl! I wish I would have taken more pictures. The food smelled amazing. There was plenty of sauce.
The 4 potatoes included are whole red potatoes that aren’t cut in half or quartersu so that was surprising.
Seafood Fried Rice A mix of Lobster, Shrimp, King, Dungeness, and Snow crab meat (freshly cut) mixed with veggies, eggs and surrounded by mussels!
Review: The seafood rice was good it was filled with lots meat. If you are a rice lover order this with your meal as well. You won’t be disappointed.
Server: Our server was alright considering it was a busy holiday. At times he was attentive but a few times I had to grab him several times to bring out cans of soda and ice. The last soda can was hot because it was literally taken out of the package in front is and put on the table with no additional ice. We need to ask for more napkins. I really wanted a lava dessert to go but the server didn’t recommend because it came with ice cream and he felt it wouldn’t travel well.
Overall, we had a good dinner on Sunday night. I will be back and would recommend this place for a cute date night or family outing. I would not wear anything too nice because it can be little messy even though cuts little bibs are supplied.
They have a cute little outside area to eat with lots of table. They place really good music and the playoffs game was on which was great.
This place is BYOB which I love! Bring your wine, beer or liquor!
The food is fresh and you can pick your choice...
