It was my first time going here and I thought that the burritos were going to be good, but when I actually tried it, it was awful! When I unwrapped my steak and chicken w/o salsa burrito, it looked like the rice was sticking to the burrito as if it was cheese, and it was just full of pinto beans! I also thought that they would be using black beans, but instead they’re using pinto beans? And I also thought I would get a free side of tortilla chips but I guess not. I couldn’t even finish the burrito, it was disgusting. And I think some of the meat was barely cooked, it was chewy and insipid. I don’t think I’ll be returning, but if I do, I hope I have a better experience.
Edit: Don’t listen to those other reviews because they’re sorta false. I’ll add one more star because what I think about this restaurant has changed and I just had a bad experience last time. Well this time I barely liked my burrito which consisted of blacks beans, steak, and rice and all of it was bad and that includes the tortilla, like the steak was chewy and lacking flavor and the black beans tasted weird and the tortilla tasted even weirder and the rice was the most weirdest and all together this makes the burrito bad, but I couldn’t throw it in the trash since I wasted 14$ on this and I can say it was a very big burrito and it they were quite generous with steak, but that doesn’t change the fact that the burrito is bad. I was also surprised by the fact how fast my burrito was made. As a restaurant near a gas station, I was having high hopes expectations for this place, but in reality, you would want to stay 500ft away from this place. It wasn’t worth 14$ for the burrito, but if you like bad burritos that are huge for a reasonable price, then this place may be for you. I won’t be coming back to this place. I don’t even know how you can call this a “Mexican” restaurant or even authentic Mexican food because this is bad. As a Honduran, if I could change whatever recipe ya’ll are using to mines, it’ll be way better and I can tell these burritos are bad, like ya’ll aren’t even making them correctly or how they should taste. The only thing saving you from a one star rating is how huge the burritos, the service, and the restaurant itself besides that, the...
Read moreWhere to start...? Was skeptical when we drove around the strip mall and found another Mexican place. Maybe they went out of business. Then we saw the Burrito Perdido drive-through kiosk without a menu at the gas station, must have gone out of business. But, why a drive through at a gas station?! Drive around the front and there it was, in a gas station. We parked right in front and debated whether we wanted to eat gas station food as we scrutinized the patrons and decor. It looked clean, nice decorations, big screen tv.... Alright, we agreed to give it a try. It turns out, this restaurant is one of the best hidden finds in Hampton Roads! The beef is grass-fed Meyer beef that is the sweetest, most tender beef you've eaten. The shredded pork is tender and delicious. And finally found a place with fresh, soft corn tortillas. The salsa is dangerous, use in moderation first, unless less you like lava. Pico de gallo is very good and very fresh. Everything is organic and as locally-sourced as can be. Even the beer. Finally, do NOT miss the popsicles! You may have to ask for them.
This restaurant offers a quality of food that is difficult to find in Hampton Roads, an atmosphere that is homey and relaxed, and owners who are down to earth, thoroughly understand their product and their preparation processes, and deliver all of this with reasonable prices. The service is outstanding and very personable.
The Burrito Perdido is nothing like every other Mexican restaurant you've tried here. As you drive up, your impression will rightly be "hole-in-the-wall." As you chow down, your experience will be complete...
Read moreGave my dad a list of places we should try in the area and she picked this one for Father's Day. I'm from Virginia Beach so it was drive to get here and we had to take a toll. HOWEVER COMMA it was all worth it.
It is literally connected to a gas station. Don't let that fool you though. You walk in and it's perfectly clean. When we did walk in, we were greeted but a little lost on what to get. Well, let me not say WE, my parents were. I already knew what I wanted. A chimichangaaaaaaa!
When you check into yelp, you get a free order of salsa and chips which was pretty cool. The salsa tasted fresh.
So the menu is loaded with so many different options. Unfortunately, you have to pay for sour cream and guac extra but whatever, load it on there. When placed on my chimi, it was in the colors/order of the mexican flag. I was like "i see what you did here". On addition to my chimi, I ordered a chicken taco. It was a little pricey but once you get it, you realize why. It's basically two tacos CONNECTED and it made my heart happy lol. It's a little hard to hold and bite, however just know I got the job done. This was one of the best chimichangas that I had. I was done perfect and the cheese, wow. YES.
I liked how the restaurant wasn't your typical mexican spot. They had american and other culture art all around the walls. So cool. On the walls also, it was information about their food. They use local and organic ingredients. What other restaurant will give you the option of having vegan cheese on your meal? For a little extra, you caaan!
My family and I will...
