Plaza Azteca · Gaviotas — Restaurant in Chesapeake

We have always had great experiences at the Cedar Road (Chesapeake) Plaza. We have dined there frequently given their proximity to us and the good food and atmosphere, and have recently made Taco Tuesdays a standing weekly gathering with family and friends. However, tonight’s experience left us quite shocked, as I imagine it may have also done to nearby patrons. Our party (3 of us) ordered our drinks and meals all at once - tacos from the Taco Tuesday special, a side of beans with each, and drinks (not water). Once we starting eating we all noticed the beans tasted funny - our groups members’ descriptions ranged from fruity to sour to rancid. We told our server, and he apologized. We consumed everything else we ordered and made no other mention of the beans. When we received the bill, the beans were on there so we asked to have them removed. The manager came over and wouldn’t take them off the bill because he said we ate half of the beans. After some discussion he ultimately said there are enough other patrons and he didn’t care what I had to say. Walking away he stopped at another table and loudly asked if they liked the beans. Then he even more loudly stated (essentially shouted) how much they liked the beans. I’m utterly shocked the manager acted this way over a side of beans. Everyone in my group felt that the “funny taste” wasn’t just a slight difference in preparation, unless a little extra E.coli was tossed in. We just could not have continued to eat them. So this was my second time at this restaurant. I must say. The food is pretty good. And the service is good too. The food comes out pretty quickly too and that's awesome! Cause who really wants to sit and wait for their food for hourrrssss right? I guess it just depends on what type of meat your ordering. Lol! Anyways.....

My concern is that this is the second restaurant I noticed that when I use my bank card to pay for the bill and I leave the tip in cash. That I'm still being charged a tip on my bank card after a couple of days when I check my account. I came on Saturday and it was very busy. And I know I xxxxx out the tip section.

Cause my bill was $14.43 and I left $5.00 in cash for our waitress. Then as I'm sitting checking my account like I usually do on Tuesday mornings. I'm noticing that more money came out. It's extremely disturbing.... Especially when you go to a restaurant and you leave the tip in cash for that very reason.

It's an uncomfortable feeling! Cause it looks like theft! Well the learning lesson for today. Is just to pay everything in cash. Cause even if you pay on your card and leave the tip in cash restaurants are being totally dishonest right now. And I can't even blame it on alcohol.... Everything we have had here is great. Their bar is great. There is never a wait but sometimes it gets busy. The food is amazing - we have loved every dish we've tried.

EDIT: I bumped our 5 star review down because of the bad service we had tonight. We were sat down, the waiter named "Junior" came and got our drink orders. It took him a little bit to take our food order, and when I looked over I saw him near the drink station, counting receipts and cash tips. Eventually he came over and got our food order.

Right before our food came out, a large party was seated near us. Junior obviously forgot about us. He never came to check on us, not once. A waiter named "Elder" noticed us eventually and refilled our drinks. I had to wave down a waitress to finally get boxes and our check, 15 minutes after we were done eating. Junior was nice enough to say goodnight as we left.

I have never had service at this restaurant like I did tonight! It really seemed like Junior was only worried about his tips, between him counting tips in front of guests to forgetting his other table once a big party was seated. Also, there seemed to be at least one waitress plus Junior waiting on the big table, and we were sitting next to them. I am frustrated that we were not taken care of at all.

The food was great as always. Horrible service...
