I celebrated a birthday dinner this week for one of my friends. She suggested Crazy Buffet & Grill in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake. I've never been there before. The atmosphere was more on the oriental flavor. The lighting is soft and dim. The room is quite large and spacious and you can sit on either side of the buffet that's in the center The buffet is a mixture of Chinese, American and Seafood. The food is constantly restocked so it's always warm. There is an endless variety of food to choose from. All of the meat like ribs, steak, beef was excellent. They even had devil eggs. I hit those several times since they are a favorite of mine. The Chinese was very good also. Although I'm allergic to most shell fish, there was plenty of salmon, whitting and filet for me to eat. They had also a large dessert bar and fruit and vegetables bar for a salad. Also a huge ice cream case like in a 7-11 where you reach in and choose your ice cream. The best thing is to everything is well labeled so you don't have to try to guess what something is, and if you have a question, there is always someone close attending the bars to asked. My only suggestion is to go when you are hungry, do you can enjoy as much as possible. The buffet is under $20 and I think between $16 and 18. But for the variety of an all you can eat buffet Yes it's worth it.

Crazy Buffet & Grill is located in the Parkview Shops Shopping Center on the corner of Military Hwy and Greenbrier Pkwy. It's located inside what used to be a Food Lion and is your a basic chinese buffet that's been super sized. There' a lot of food here, however IMOP there's so much that they don't have any 'wow' items, so the food here is ok. If however you're looking for the most bang for your buck, then this is your buffet. At CBG you have plenty of options, and if you don't like something, put your plate to the side and go fill up another one. I've been here at least 3 times now and no matter how full they are we've always been able to get a seat, have lunch, and return to work within an hour. It's perfect for a group as well. Will I be back, sure, but only if everyone wants to go for here for lunch.

We were there around 6 pm and it was not crowded. There were a decent amount of people, but nothing overwhelming. You have to pay before you sit down which is fine. The one waitress in the section we were sat in didn't really check on drinks very often. The food on the buffet was old. Some of the chicken dishes: general tsao, black pepper chicken, were so dried out it was hard to chew. The hibachi was so so. The person was doing so many at a time and not in any particular order. By the time the person came back to mine and stirred it, the noodles were burnt. And it took a while! People at my table were already getting second helpings before I had my first. So it wasn't worth it to try again. I probably would try somewhere else. For the price, you expect fresh food and decent service.

Food was ok. Some was really enjoyable- hot and fresh. But if it wasn't, it was really just ok... not good.

They were very busy the entire time we were there and servers kept our food plates moving and water filled, which I greatly appreciated. They were constantly putting out fresh food on the buffet, but often the food that was older and was there before was just moved to the top so even though it looked hot and fresh, what I got on my plate was just somewhat warm.

We were also disappointed that the website said crab legs, and we used to go enjoy their crab legs- even willing to wait in a line for them to be brought out- but there weren’t any. When we asked about it we were told there were no crab legs. When we said their website said they had crab legs emeritus response was, "oh yes on the website, but that was a long time ago," which was disappointing. I would rather them remove it from their website so we didn't go in expecting them and start the experience off disappointed. We enjoyed it more in the past, and won't need to go back to try it again for awhile, but after quite a few years of going, I'm sure we will give it a try again- especially if we have little ones work us.

All of that said, Crazy Buffet has ALWAYS had a great selection with a lot of food. We didn't eat from their grill, but there was a constant line of people enjoying it.

They do offer food for everyone from Chinese to seafood (fried and baked), sushi (limited and so so), soup, sweet potatoes and pizza, fresh fruit and dessert including ice cream (which our kids always loved picking out from the freezer like it was an ice cream truck).

Everything seemed clean and it was...

Updated--- 02/2023 ---

This was my first time going back in a few years. I'm sad to say Crazy Buffet is no longer what it was. The website is out of date, there are no longer crab legs. No oysters.

Although clean, it's showing it's age. The people where nice enough though, and very attentive.

The food has gone down hill. Some items were cold. Serving trays were sometimes empty. Flavors were not something you'd go back for. Everything was salty. They worked hard to turn things over and when you did catch a tray fresh it was okay.

Still, it's just a shadow of what it was and I don't feel a need to return. I hope they turn the place around, my family and I have had a lot of great memories there.

-- original from around 2017 --- As Chinese buffets go this is one of the two best in the Virginia Beach area.

They have a great diversity of food choices, including standard buffet choices as well as custom soups, sushi and an above average seafood selection.

The sushi is excellent for a Chinese buffet. Its fair compared to a real sushi restaurant but it's a buffet, you should go in with that expectation. Their seaweed salad is excellent and is of sushi restaurant quality.

Bathrooms are good, the place is clean. The staff is always nice. They keep food fresh even as the night comes to a close.

They have crab legs on the weekend at a slightly higher price. They fill them often but they go very fast.

I have yet to be disappointed here and tend to go around once a month.

They also offer to go boxes as at a good price.

They do get busy and there is often a line as the...

Once I bit into cold calamari, cold fried fish, cold crab cakes, and cold noodles, I knew it was time to call the manager. I advised the manager of my displeasure with cold food. His response: “Because the air conditioning is on you have to turn the food so you get the hot stuff on the bottom” !!!

The issue with this statement is this:

Management knows this is a problem The management’s solution is for me, the customer, to perform a food service action by flipping/turnning cold food to the bottom. This is a clear violation of the food service codes. Besides, there are heat lamps!!! The food needs ls to be changed out, not flipped. Terribly managed place.

I asked for a refund, and he said no, but I’ll give you 20% off. I half of each item (which he could clearly see) because it was either cold or had a nasty taste. I couldn’t leave without paying and possibly catching a charge so eventually he agreed to 50% off, but that was screwed up because he took the $9 off after taxes! I tried explaining to him that’s not the way to apply the discount, because I’m paying taxes on the full amount, instead of the discounted amount. The language barrier was too much so I paid and left.

This place used to be the best in town, now that Chesapeake Buffet took over this Norfolk location it’s run by greed and lazy employees who are on their phones most of the time.

If you want to end up on the toilet (like my kid) due to overpriced old food, then this is the place for you. There are way more options that are food-safe and a better value. Avoid...
