My fiancé and I recently stayed here because we were seeing a concert at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk. I found a better rate here than at a Hampton Inn in Norfolk and we would already be past the tunnel where as the last time we went to Chartway we commuted from Williamsburg so this time we wanted to be closer. The hotel is beautiful and we had a very nice and clean room. Our room included breakfast the next morning (another reason we stayed here) and we both agreed this is the best hotel breakfast we've had (we've stayed two other places this year). I was excited to see that they had a waffle maker because the other places we've stayed didn't and when I think of a hotel breakfast I think of making your own waffles which I did! Not only did they have a waffle maker but they had two of them (one large one small) and they did not have your typical waffle batter for them. They had two different flavors. One with vanilla and one with strawberry. I even saw a staff member help an older lady make her waffles!
That morning they had French Toast Sticks as an option which I really enjoyed. The only negative I have regarding breakfast is the French Toast Sticks didn't seem to be kept warm. Also, breakfast is from 6am - 10am where as the last place we stayed it was only three hours. We went early and it was quite a few people there but it was quiet as compared to when we checked out at 10 and breakfast was crowded and loud!
The only dealing I had with staff were asking about breakfast and checking out and both times they were nice.
The only thing I think I didn't like about the hotel falls on me: it's 30 minutes from Chartway Arena. I thought it was 20 but apparently I was "starting" from another Hampton Inn in the area. We were late getting to the area because of traffic so I was slightly disappointed that I had to drive half an hour when I was expecting shorter.
Besides having a good breakfast the other pros about this hotel are: -Only four floors and the elevators are pretty quick at getting to your floor and they are also a smooth stopping (I've been on one somewhere that almost seemed like it was slamming on the breaks to stop -There's a Wawa across the street in case you need a late night snack -There's a laundry room on site. I didn't see it listed on the website but there is one inside the Fitness Center. They also have the newest washer and dryer I've seen of any hotel/motel plus they accept a debit or credit card. I think there's also laundry products available to purchase. We only used the dryer and it had a timer on the machine saying how long it would take. It was a little more expensive than the laundromat my fiancé uses back home but at least everything got dry the first time. -This is a Hilton hotel so you can sign up for Hilton Honors program or whatever their rewards program is called and use the Hilton Honors app to check in and to get a digital key to unlock your door (it's like tap to pay except for a door) if you don't want to get a key card.
We stayed one night but enjoyed it and if we were back in the area we would...
Read moreI chose this location over another based on the reviews and 3 star hotel rating.
Cons An infestation of baby roaches Hairy sheets (pet & human hair) They mop right after breakfast during check out. They’re asking for a slip & fall. The food isn’t fresh and the oatmeal was soupy & watered down. The hallway carpet to the elevator is so dark, hairy, and dirty. The dingy mop water smelly carpet makes the hotel look outdated. It needs a steam cleaning for sure , Especially considering that pets are allowed.
Pros The room and hotel appeared clean.
My visit- I called down for new sheets and the associate said she had to find sheets but I had to come get them myself. I was given new sheets rolled up not folded. I unrolled the sheets on the bed and noticed they were linty and full of crumbs. Oh wow! SMH! That defeated the purpose of asking for new sheets. SMH!! Hairy sheets vs crumby & linty sheets (FYI pets are allowed here). I threw the sheets on the floor by the door and seconds later they were covered in baby roaches. I didn’t sleep the whole night.
Breakfast- I ate the runny watery oatmeal but everything else looked ok. An hour after eating breakfast I got a terrible stomach ache. I’ll spare you the details. I’m sure I had food poisoning. I should’ve known better based on the cleanliness of my room. Never again! This location ruined it for all.
Why did I stay- This was my last result and the only room left in the area (besides sleeping in my car w/an infant). Other hotels were booked out for miles for some event by the Ocean front. Would I stay again- Hell No! I would have been better off in my car. At least it would’ve been bug free and I would’ve gotten some sleep. Tip- Don’t let the 3 stars, fancy look, and reviews full you. Check your rooms before you check in. And if the hotel doesn’t allow that or the staff is required to go with you (like the associate did us) then leave they’re hiding something… like roaches, spoiled food, bad customer service, and hairy,...
Read moreTo start, my mother and I rented rooms because we were in town for a funeral. We checked in around 7pm and checked out at 8:30pm the same night. The rooms we were given were not only dirty, but smelled strongly of urine, not sure if it was from dogs or human urine. We informed the front desk and instead of sending a staff member up to check the room and see what we were talking about, they just said, "well let us know when you will leave and we will put in a machine to get rid of the smell", no apology or anything of that nature. The woman at the front desk then said that we can talk to her tomorrow and they will put us in a different room, which surprised me because we were expected to stay in a room that smelled of urine and was incredibly dirty. After sitting in the room that didn't smell as strongly, we decided that we can not stay here and decided to find another hotel. We discussed with the front desk about options where she promised that she would not charge us for the room and fully refund our money, then when we checked out an hour later, went back on her promise and said she can't give us anything in writing and we will have to wait until tomorrow. Well, the next day came and they still charged us for one night for both rooms at $248.57 each, super overpriced for the conditions of this establishment, not to mention one room was not touched at all because the smell was incredibly awful.
Honestly, I am surprised by the nonchalant attitude of the front desk and implications of the health safety concerns of this establishment. I was travelling with children and the conditions were unacceptable. I don't know how this is associated with the Hilton brand and how this hotel is open and not shut down due to the disgusting conditions that the staff is willing to let guests stay in. To make matters worse, there was no apology from the front desk at all or an apology from the management staff at all.
If you can afford to stay at a different hotel, stay far away...
