Gelati Celesti Ice Cream — Restaurant in Chesapeake

Last Saturday the man and I were running errands down this way and after a delectable lunch at Krispy Krunch I was hankering a dessert. With there being so many new establishments along this road that we haven't tried I did a quick Google search and found Gelati Celesti. The man told me he wasn't interested in dessert since he didn't have any belly room. That all changed when he saw Kettle Corn gelato. It was a 'all she wrote' moment foe him. He got his 3 scoops of kettle corn gelato in his Waffle cone. I, on the other hand, couldn't pull the plug on just one favorite so my 3 scoops were: Almond Joy (on the bottom), Banana and topped with Butter Pecan. The pecan was good, the banana was better but the Almond Joy was the star of my Waffle cone scoops. While it was very good ice cream/gelato it isn't what I would deem authentic gelato. We spent 3 years in Italy courtesy of the military and had to die for gelato.

The young lady running the show was quite friendly and accommodating. As we were enjoying our dessert in the parking lot I noticed that not only did they have a walk up window but there was a water bowl for pets near the walk up window.

Next time we're down this way, I'll be sure to have plenty of belly space to try...

Tonight my children & I stopped by for ice cream. We have been to the Virginia Beach location quite a few times since my office is located in Town Center so I was delighted to see one in Chesapeake as well. When we entered we got no greeting but I thought it would changed as we approached the ice cream selection but the employee still didn’t say a anything just starred at us smirking, literally mute for about 5 minutes or maybe even longer. After a while, the male employee joined her side-by-side in with the stare and they begun giggling. About 2 more minutes later the male employee decided to ask “ can we help you with something ? ”I responded of course as my children had already made their selections during their time spent starring at us.

There after, the female employee finally approached me and asked could she help as well and I asked her was everything okay? Not sure if we were left out of an inside joke or what the issue was. But my kids even noticed. Nonetheless, the entire interaction was unwelcoming, distasteful and unprofessional. We walked into our favorite ice cream shop last night at 9:39pm. I understand they close at 10pm but we weren’t greeted by the anyone. No one offered us help. At the counter, the employee did not say a word and just answered questions coldly. She handed me my ice cream without saying anything or even looking at me. I said “thank you” because I have manners and no response. An employee was cleaning and gave me a dirty look for sitting on a chair. I apologized and she said NOTHING.

I understand you were closing in less than half an hour but if you’d like to clock out right at 10pm, maybe lock the doors at 9:30pm so you don’t have to deal with any gasp customers. It’s summertime and you sell ice cream. I think it should be a requirement to be kind. All that to say, we’re looking for our new favorite...
