Let me start with I normally have no issues with the service or food at Wickers. I have probably gone there 30 times within the past 5 years. But yesterday was horrible. First I call to put in a order for a half bushel of crabs and the young lady that answered the phone explained it was first come first serve. I told her I was coming from Newport News, and she said that was no problem that there were plenty of them. I get there and I was the 3rd person in line and when i get to the window i am told i can't place that order. I explained i called and spoke with her and she said she was just told. So after speaking with a mgr, they honored what she said. So about 10 minutes later my half bushel is ready. And the man I was sitting next to and the people that ordered in front of me were still waiting for their food and their orders were much smaller than mine. But again every other time I go there service is great, so I just thought they pushed me in the front of the orders because of our misunderstanding while placing my order. When I get my order the young lady says they put in a few extra. I get home and my family and I sit to eat and the first few I ate were good. But my daughter kept saying hers smelled funny and taste funny. I go to taste her next crab, but when i go to open it, it smells HORRIBLE. After digging further into the crab I noticed the inside was brown, the meat of the crab was slimy and soggy. So we threw that one, the next few were good. Then the next 6 opened were horrible, so it bought a half bushel and I still have a little over 2 dozen left that you can't eat. I saved them, I am off tomorrow so I will be calling the mgr. Follow up... I called with my concern and spoke with a mgr and before I could say anything, they told me to come so they can replace my order. Like I stated before I have never had an...
Read moreRubber shrimp and flavorless steam pots. Cracked beer glass and compensation. Left with a bad taste in out mouth. We came in from out of town to see our kids who are active duty. Wanted to go somewhere special for his birthday dinner. Into our meal we noticed that his beer glass was cracked all the way down and chipped. Yes I know you are thinking we should have noiticed sooner, but we were catching up and drinking and being merry. When I tracked her down to brought it to her attention and she got us a different. One and said that one was on the house...really, like she was doing us a favor. How about I'm really sorry your glass is cracked. Are you okay would have been nice. And to tell us the new one.She brought would be on the house. Probably should have taken the cracked beer off our tab also, at bear minimum plus the new one or even asked if we still wanted one.. I work in high dining and I would absolutely not charge them for any drink or make someone feel like i was doing them a favor., it wasnt our fault. And at minimum I would have offer them a dessert or Comp their meal or so an appetizer. That being said after dinner no deserts were offered (hensce the whole birthdaycelebration), not even if we want it to pay for them. Our bill was 248.00 for 4 people so it's not like we looking for a free ride. Very disappointing. And what's with no bill, I hate that they give you their machine and stand there while you fill it out. And then she made a comment about the men paying and the women filling out the tip. Rude. I did tip twenty percent because I am in the business. But I really wish I would not have. The crab dip was good and the Mac and cheese. Like I said there was no hint of garlic or seasoning in the steam pot. I will make sure to spead the word that this place that seemed promising turned out sub...
Read moreI heard so much about Wicker Crabpot that I finally gave it a try. I was happy to know I could order six steamed blue crabs because I didn’t want a dozen and didn’t want to take with me. We started our meal with the delicious she crab soup. It was absolutely the best she crab, creamy, sherry soup topped with Old Bay!!! Excellent full of crabmeat too. My husband ordered a crabcake and fried shrimp. The shrimp were nice size and lightly breaded. Very good and tender. I ordered the steamed crab platter which included six crabs, corn, and potatoes. The corn and potatoes were delish! The steamed crabs not too good. Coming from the blue crab state of Maryland, Wickers didn’t meet the crab standard. Either the crabs were old or cooked earlier in the morning and became dry and some mushy. Very disappointed. I ate them hoping the next crab would be better. One crab I couldn’t eat at all cause of the texture. It’s hard to believe that crabs were not steamed in beer and old bay because there was no flavor or seasoning inside the crab. Must cook in water and nothing else. The inside of the crab wasn’t fresh looking either. There was no mustard and the gills were not fresh or plump looking. When you pulled the claws off the body none of the cooking juices escaped, the meat was just dry. This was on a Saturday around 2:30-3:30 and the place was selling crabs outside so the turnover should have been better for diners! If you love crabs come to Maryland! I was born and raised here and always thought the Norfolk area had the best crabs, remembering Blue Channel and my dad catching and cooking crabs but now MD has the monopoly on how to cook or...
