Gao's Kabob Chicago — Restaurant in Chicago

Ok, so, apparently, there's some "quirks and features" about this restaurant. Let's start by talking about the menu. As you can see, it cost 8 usd to get a bbq cold noodle. Apparently, this is some high-end cold noodle price compared to my hometown. You can purchase 10+ the same exact thing. But it does not stop here. If you can read chinese, the amount of cold noodle is define by "a plate" instead of count. Well, how much is a plate you might ask. Look at the picture, there is a long dish with around 6 of them. So, is it 6? WRONG! It is apparently 3.5. I got 3 small one and 1 mini version of the cold noodle. Why is it like this? I don't know. But I think that's how they define a plate :" a plate with 3.5 pieces of cold noodle"

Next, let's talking about soy sauce rice. I will ignore the much larger portion on the picture and talk about quality. Just by name you can tell how simple it is. Egg fried rice with soy sauce. How can anyone in the world cook it wrong? Well, Mr.Gao did it. It has no taste in it, it is so plain that I have to add salt and pepper myself to treat myself better with this 10usd soy sauce colored plain rice. Why is it 10 dollars? I do not know. Maybe some high end soy sauce air shipped from Japan overnight? Or maybe there is clearly white rice shown underneath?

Of course, we have to mention the kebab. The quality shifts around. Chicken heart has zero taste nor cooked feeling in it. Lamb was just barly ok. I have to say at least they got average beef and pork so I still have something to eat.

Finally, let's talk about service. The server have a feel of rude probably due to the exhaust of late night working like the chief here. He barely served me. Obviously they will not ask what you going to drink nor bring up tap water. If you are thirsty, well, you got an iPad. With no free water choice on it of course. The environment was not clean. Almost all tables have residues from last customer. But, I guess that gives you a feeling of your home country outdoor kebab truck, just with a prestigious price tag.

Will I recommend this 2 star place? I won't. If you are an American that seeks Chinese style kebab. It is acceptable here. If you are a Chinese, that's a different story. It is not as good as most kebab place you find in China. Do you have a choice to choose at chicago? Probably not. But if you can do kebab or egg fried rice yourself, you are doing better than this restaurant.

It is fantastic enough that I don't want to leave a single tip. Oh, how easy can it be to open a chinese restaurant in the east. I can find tons of much better Chinese kebab in California. Sigh.

Obviously, they won't care about reviews like all chinese restaurant did. And there will be no improvement. Just, if ur rich, go ahead. I spend 55, around 380 in rmb. Do you want to know how many kebab u can get in China? Or...

Me and my boyfriend waited for about 40 minutes to get in the restaurant which was no problem. Our first red flag was going to check in on our table and seeing that the man had already crossed our name out before calling us to notify our table was ready. The second red flag, came when we were seated. We were seated at the same time as another couple, but they were able to order first which again is perfectly fine.....but we then had to wait another 20-25 minutes to order. Once we finally got a chance to order, everyone else had already received their food. Still, me and my boyfriend waited patiently. We finally ordered and again by the time we got our food, everyone had already had 2 orders worth of food. Our final breaking point was when we received the food. We received the food, which wasn’t worth what we went through to get it, just to be forced to leave our skewer sticks all over the table because they didn’t bring us a bucket in the first place. They didn’t seem to care much about us, it showed on their face. My boyfriend expressed his disappointment to the man who I guess was running the restaurant, and he laughed in his face. Never again, so...

came here a lot, this is my goto spot since its just 4 mins from my house also good food, really good, good price, decent portion minus 2 star because my last visit

i came in yesterday 16 dec at 11pm something the server threw yes threww the plate at the table this guy with glasses a bit chubby not only the plate he THREW the food lol he was like "here's your food lol idc" no exaggeration, owner can check the cctv lol no greeting, heck no talking at all idk?? language barrier?? but there's no way sitting there for a good 2 hrs never get any water refill we ASKED, he just grab the water pitcher and never comeback, like what??? and sit down playing phone yes playing phone i asked for a box and check never get a box we left our leftover there no choice?? we didn't get a box to wrap it?? it was still a lot of leftover, and i actually love the food, i can eat it tmr for lunch

pls owner do train your server or hire someone with experience this is so annoying lol this actually my fav spot

i do still tip him 18% when he did nothing except being rude and lazy and he was not talking any single word like i was so confused he was just pointing thing...
