Gus' Sip & Dip — Restaurant in Chicago

I saw a video of this place and the high reviews online and decided to give it a try for happy hour, unfortunately me and my party was not impressed. FYI - there are no reservations! My sister got there and there was a long line, once to the front they put us on the list for when our table is ready. We decided to go to blue sushi next door to kill some time, we didn’t get a text until about an hour later… so no happy hour as it’s only an hour. We head to the place and there is another line of others who also received text in which the guy at the front said it would be another hour, we had to mention again our name was already on the list, he apologized and we went in few mins later. Once inside it did have a nice cute, swanky vibe but the menu was limited and overpriced. We ordered two appetizers and each got a drink. The drink was actually pretty strong but the food was just okay to us. There was nothing really unique and special about it to have waited so long to get in. They also only have 2 bathroom stalls in the entire place which you have to stand in another line just to use the bathroom. For us, it definitely was not worth the hype and we actually enjoyed blue sushi more and would actually love to explore the rest of their menu. I don’t mind paying more for quality experiences but...

I was so excited to try this place but won’t be back. Got there at 7. Guy at the door told us it would be an hour. We went to a bar to wait.

We came back at 8pm and he told us 20-30 minutes. He said they’d text if it became available sooner.

We went to ANOTHER bar to wait for over an hour while consistently checking my phone for updates. We tried calling and texting to check in- crickets.

We went BACK to check at 9.

He asked if we wanted to put our name on the list and didn’t recognize us… this was our third time speaking with him.

We told him my name and he said they “tried to text me” but it didn’t go through.

We asked how that happened as the 2nd time we checked in we were 2nd on the list. He cut us off mid sentence and said “I wasn’t done explaining if you’d let me finish” in the RUDEST tone.

He said my number must’ve been “blocked by open table” which is not true. Instead of attempting to resolve the situation, he belittled us and made us feel like the problem.

All we wanted to do was try this restaurant and he kept giving us inaccurate wait times and then apparently gave our table away after 2 1/2 hours of waiting…

Once we finally got a table, the restaurant did nothing to accommodate or...

It was out first time there, the server was lovely, but unfortunately the experience w the security guard and the manager on duty was terrible. We were waiting for 2 people inside before they closed at 1am, the sever said it was ok if they come before 1, they arrive before and the security guard didn’t allow them to get in, when we had already ordered and paid food and drinks for them. I spoke w the security guy and he was so rude and derogatory, the server tried to explain to him and he said they have SERIOUS RULES ABOUT LAST CALL AND CLOSING DOORS, we had to cancel our order, then when we spoke w the manager, he was unprofessional and unable to fix the situation, he said THEY WILL NOT ISSUE A REFUND cuz we ordered and it wasn’t their fault (when the drinks and food were already returned), that they didn’t let them in, he said it was on us, to be a new establishment, they should at least listening to the feedback, but instead he made the situation worse and He showed his inability to deal with a stressful situation and just walked away and left...
