On the day of arrival we were greeted by the receptionist friendly. After the usual formalities we received our keycards.
Room: Modern furnishings and, for an American metropolis, generously cut. So we had enough space for us. The bed was super comfortable and we slept very well. Unfortunately, I soon realized what was not working right here. The fridge of the minibar. He grunted like a small helicopter that wants to take off right away. So I switched off the device so we could at least sleep in peace. The next morning I asked the receptionist to take care of this problem. I was assured that the device will be replaced, but unfortunately nothing happened. So I turned off the fridge every night.
Breakfast: We were completely starving because the food during the flight was just gross. We received a classic breakfast buffet with American "delicacies". A matter of taste - we became full! Nevertheless, I find it very disturbing to eat in a hotel of hard plastic plates, to drink our coffee from paper cups, to clean the table and to clean up the dishes we uses ourself. The attention of the staff is unfortunately not very large, because often lacked something and you had to ask for it. For a hotel of the Hyatt Group, I definitely expect more service.
Housekeeping: This hotel offers its guests to refrain from housekeeping and to be credited 250 points per day to their membership account. For this you only have to hang the corresponding sign before 11 am from the outside of the room door. So I did it. But on the fourth day, when I wanted to use the cleaning service, I removed the sign and we went to our daily routine. When we returned we found out that the house keeping obviously left our room out. So I called the front desk and asked for new towels, toilet paper and removal of the accumulated garbage. I was told that I would forgo my entire stay on this service to get the extra points. I contradicted that and read the rules to the employee again. After that he apologized for this inconvenience.
Service in general: One evening we still had leftovers from a fast food restaurant and wanted to eat them. For this I asked for a way to warm them up with a microwave. In the hallway of our room there was no, but I was assured that they would bring us a microwave to our room. Wow, great service - I thought. But the device never arrived. From home I had done an online order in a webshop and sent it to the hotel. On arrival we received the package. Top! Unfortunately, this service will be charged $ 5.00. At the check-out were unfortunately not asked if we liked the stay. But that also confirms my overall impression.
Conclusion: My next visit to Chicago will surely take place - but not in this hotel anymore. ...
Read moreHotel is located right across the street from the Fire Department, which means LOUD sirens all night! It is so loud that the room comes with earplugs and a sound machine. Unbelievable!! Had we been notified at the time of booking our reservation, we definitely would not have stayed here! When making this reservation, we specifically asked to not be placed by the elevator or ice machine; common sense (and honesty) about the loud location would make you think they would disclose the above information. Unfortunately, Hyatt Place wants their guests to be unhappy with their stay because they do not does disclose this information. Terrible business etiquette! The day of check in, we arrived for our seven night stay and were told that our room was not ready. We dropped our luggage off, went to lunch and walked around the city for a good 4-5 hours. Given the lengthy time we gave them to get our room ready, when came back hours later we were not only told that our room was still not ready but that they had oversold the property. That was not an option for us, as we have had this reservation for months in advance! After yet another wait, we were finally given a room. Upon arrival to our room, we were made aware of the loud location! We have been very loyal customers to Hyatt Place properties and this is the first time that we have been disappointed. We have talked to the property Manager and the only “options” she suggested were not compatible to what we agreed to when booking our reservation (ex: rooms/properties that did not have equivalent bed sizes and the unbelievable, unprofessional remark of “you can stay at a different property of ours but you will have to pay the difference in cost”). Why should a customer be inconvenienced/penalized for an error in which the Hyatt Place is solely at fault? I am flabbergasted that a business would even stoop so low as to make these nonsense recommendations! We booked a room with two queen beds and now, after being extremely frustrated with this situation, the Manager told us “all two queen rooms at this location are on the side of the property that look at the Fire Department.” We will be sure to share this experience with friends and family, in addition to sharing our displeasure on social media outlets. Not only is the noise from the sirens ridiculously loud, but the walls in this place are paper thin. You can hear people slamming their doors, yelling in the hallways and at 11:15 pm and counting, you can hear other guests talking/screaming in...
Read moreI want to first put out a rave for the level of customer service at this hotel. Everyone I encountered from the front desk staff to the housekeepers and breakfast attendants were kind and helpful answering all my questions and helping with anything we needed during our stay. I do however have to write this review to warn others so they do not make my same mistake. The room my family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids 11/8) booked was a king room with sleeper sofa. We have done this before because my kids think it’s cool and fun to sleep on the pull out. When we arrived late on Thursday evening and settle in to the room I open the “sleeper sofa” to find a mattress that was at most 4” (and that feels like a generous estimate) thick and substantially smaller than the mattress space leaving platform and springs fully exposed on each side. This looks like the original mattress had been replaced with a very cheap and wrong size replacement. My son climbed on the “bed” and quickly said I feel like I’m laying on springs. The “sleeper sofa” was in fact not sleepable. For that night we put the couch back together and slept one kid on the couch and one in bed with us. I asked the next morning if this was in fact what was supposed to be on the pull out showing a picture. The young lady looked at it and her face looked surprised and said let me ask my manager and when she returned confirmed the manager said this is what they all are. I asked to be moved to a room with 2 beds but was told they were fully booked so we spent our 4 nights with kids in the bed which absolutely impacted my sleep and the trip. So don’t make my mistake and think the sleeper sofa can actually be slept on, it’s a couch. Get a room with two beds if you need two...
