I’ve made it a mission in 2024 to find the best almond croissant in Chicago, and I’m happy to say that La Fournette is winning by far!! Their shops is small, yet mighty! It’s not wheelchair accessible so keep that in mind if you need access. However, they do have a cute outdoor patio that gives the right vibes if the weather permits. I’ve had a plethora of their bakery items and their croissants are my absolute favorite. I will say, if you are looking for something savory, their quiche (I get the veg as they are not halal but I’ve had friends have their other flavors and say they have been dreaming about the damn quiche for months) and it’s so delicious (this is an understatement); It’s a great portion to have for breakfast or brunch! The people here are welcoming, helpful, friendly, and open to suggestions. I live far from the city and I will 100% make the drive on the weekends to enjoy this wonderful bakery. So, what are you waiting for? Go...
Read moreBest croissants in Chicago. Like going to France, but it's in Old Town. La Fournette's authentic French pastries and baked goods are phenomenal. Fresh, varied, and always delight. Be sure to try the regular croissants, almond croissants, pain au chocolat, beer bread, cheese bread, danishes (blueberry is my fave), beignets (raspberry, hazelnut!), the madelines, the macarons... the sandwiches, the quiches... I could list the whole menu. I almost did. I love everything there. It's just incredible to me how something can taste like being somewhere else, when we know so many things are different like the water or other ingredients and yet somehow, when I eat here, it's like being transported abroad. Family-owned and run by super friendly staff, that -- bonus -- are also generous and patient about speaking French with young students of the language and culture. Merci La Fournette for being our...
Read moreI don’t leave many reviews, but I wanted to take the time to acknowledge the quality of both the food and the service at La Fournette. We were hosting a pulled pork sandwich dinner on Sunday. I planned to get fresh brioche but unbeknownst to me, my local bakery is closed on Sundays. I called La Fournette and they were able to fill a same-day order for 30 brioche buns in a few hours. Their friendliness and willingness to help really stood out to me. I had never been there, and when I arrived I was pleasantly met with a beautiful, timeless, and clean bakery with the most pleasant folks running the show behind the counter. By the way, everyone thought the brioche buns were delicious! I’m actually glad my plan A was closed, because it led me to La Fournette. I’ll be a returning...
