We love the Field Museum, but both the Bistro (upstairs) and the Cafe (downstairs) are frustrating places to eat for us as vegetarians. On our recent visit, we checked the online menu. We planned to order two Build Your Own salads for $14 each, to which we could add black beans, corn, and grated cheese for a good protein. Lunch would be $28 plus beverages. Instead, we arrive and they don't offer ANY of the salads advertised on the website. We had to settle for two Summer Berry and Watermelon salads (with a little feta cheese) for $15 each and add a grilled cheese that we split (for $8). So instead of $28, our meal cost $38 and didn't provide the full protein we expected. The food we ordered was really tasty, but it's frustrating from a dietary standpoint. And not every family can add more expense from what they planned. This kind of problem has happened repeatedly. Don't count on the menu from the website, not even the same day!

The dining environment is decent—tables, chairs, and the self-serve condiment and utensil area were clean and well-organized, which is the best part. The food itself was pretty average. Given that it’s a museum, I won’t comment on the prices. However, the line for ordering was a mess, with no clear guidance or proper signage. The Grill station had little signs saying to order two dishes on the right and the rest on the left, but when I asked the staff on the left, they sent me to the right instead. Definitely room for improvement in managing the ordering process.

It’s what you would expect from a museum restaurant but a little worse. The food is more expensive💰as you normally would find in a museum except it doesn’t taste the best. I kept finding myself looking at the dinosaurs 🦕to distract myself from the food. There is also no service because you grab the food yourself so the temperature of the food is up to luck 🍀. Also the drink is $5 and they give you the smallest cup after you pay 😐.

Pack food from home! Food is disgusting and completely inedible.

The pizza, breadsticks, garlic bread, and Mac and cheese were so bad, neither my 6 yr old nor my 2 year old would eat them. The tater tots were so gross my 2 year old refused to eat them. We are vegetarian. There was a piece of bacon attached to our grilled cheese. Told them I was allergic to egg before getting greek salad. Salad was mayo based.

After spending $100 at both the food venues, we filled up on grapes as a snack and went to the play lab for the kids.

Please bring the corner bistro back. The menu had reliable dishes with consistent quality mandated by a...

Overpriced. Some of the food is fine. The burgers and hot dogs looked good. Not in the mood for either of those, I chose the $11 pizza that looks absolutely nothing like the images they have on display there. It's arguably a generous portion size, but it's flat and barely sauced with its bland sauce. I've had better frozen pizzas for a $1.

My kids were happy with their plain hot dogs and my wife didn't mind her sandwich. The fruit cup my youngest picked out? There was a long dark hair in it. Sure, they let us exchange the cup for another one, but it wasn't so appetizing because of the experience.

Honestly? It's better to...
