I stopped by UP Comedy Club last night hoping to catch a good laugh in the City in a Garden. This comedy club is located in the Lakeview neighborhood, just a short walk from Wrigley Field where you can hear the roar of the friendly Cubs' crowd on game days.
As soon as I walked in the doors, I knew I was in for a hilarious time. The interior of UP Comedy Club has a classic Chicago comedy club feel - dim lighting, small round tables, and a good-sized stage where the comedians work their material. Our server was fast and friendly, bringing us pitchers of soda to enjoy during the show.
The lineup last night did not disappoint. Each comedian had a uniquely Chicago take on topics like our infamous winters in Chiberia, running for transit during a rainstorm, and trying to avoid the hustle and bustle of downtown traffic. My favorite act was Beth Stelling - she had me in stitches with her observational humor about dating in today's digital world.
With its great location near some of Chicago's best bars, approachable ticket prices, and consistently funny shows, UP Comedy Club is a top destination for a fun night out on the North Side. I'll be back again soon to soak up more laughter in the City that Works. Five stars from this...
Read moreMy wife and I along with our adult children attended the "Holidazed and Confused" show last evening. The first half of the shoe was pretty funny making light of life's situations around the Holiday season. Unfortunately the second half of the show was a full out assault on Christianity! During one of the most sacred times of the year for Christians, the "comedians" accused Jesus of demanding lude sexual acts of his disciples! At a time of year, celebrated around the world as Jesus' birth, it was NOT "funny"! This was completely out of place in the show and unnecessary! Several actually walked out and frankly wish I would have as well! If you're a Christian and celebrate the birth of Christ, or respect those that do, I'd recommend you not see this show! This is the second time my family and I attended a Holiday show at Second City. Our first time, several years ago, was great and very funny with the comedians joking about all of our dysfunctional families around the holidays! Very disappointed with our...
Read moreIt feels like a mall on the outside, but like the best of Chicago's comedians on the inside. The seating is tight, so try to go with a group of 4-5 people, otherwise, you'll be sitting in a stranger's lap. Food and drink options are pretty decent, the best deal is to get a pitcher if you plan on drinking more than 1 beer on your - which always helps at a comedy show.
We saw Jerrod Charmichael here last weekend, he's an intelligent, funny guy. The comedians who opened for him were also pretty talented. It might have been the beer, but I was laughing through...
