I went into to grab a 50 dollar gift card which any business should be happy to get, cash plus future visit. While there I saw crab cakes for 3.95 each (not aware of current market but seemed reasonable for a little bit of crab and mostly bread) to which i got 6, 6 time 3.95 about 24 plus tax. Not someone who gets crab cakes often but thought since I was at a seafood market why not. My bill came to 40 dollars when I questioned young employee they said let me check. A more seasoned employee came out ready to get in my face... I said sign says 3.95 and I got 6 should be about 24. She came to front of counter lifted case and started yelling at me about how they are 5.95 each and they did a thousand orders and someone made a mistake and wrote 3.95 on sign and I was wrong to question. Again going off about how they have been busy and did a thousand orders... to which I was sympathetic to. She says I'm done, I'm done, do you want or not? Didnt say oops were wrong heres 12 dollars back or at least take a couple cakes back because I did not want to pay 40 dollars for 6 cold crab cakes. I understand it was xmas eve and they were busy and a lot of people in there. Again, there were alot of people in there and she embarrassed me and basically forced me to take something I wouldn't of paid for if I knew how much. Sort of ridiculous. I'll be trying to speak to management/owner to resolve this and remove review. Embarrassing after I spent 90 dollars to get yelled at in front of other customers on Christmas eve. Would of Said take a couple back i don't want to spend that much, sorry, no problem about mix up. Instead she went at me and didn't give me a choice except to take them or have further altercation, while all the younger staff apologized and knew she was wrong... I was a...
Read moreI visited Masses an noon on a Tuesday, and the place was empty, no body customers or employees. I should have walked out immediately, but I did not. When an employee finally noticed me if felt very awkward, like I was someplace I wasn't supposed to be. The reason I went out of my way to go to this establishment, (mind you I drove by many other restaurants on the way here), was to have some fried food and a beer. First the menus are cheap black and white paper copies out of a printer you would have at home, and it was old & dirty. I ordered fired calamari and fried mozzarella, and a beer. The calamari was not edible, they call it general calamari. I think they tried to make something like general chicken you would get at a Chinese food restaurant. It was sweet tasting and gross. I ate one or two bits, that's all I could handle. Was not served with amarinara sauce. BTW I love calamari! The fried mozzarella was OK, except they drizzled what tasted like a chocolate sauce on it. It was served with a marinara sauce. I told the waitress about the calamari, she offered to have the cook make it the way I want. I said no, because i use to work in a restaurant, and if you worked in one too, you know what I'm talking about. The beer was great, it was bottled! So anyway I paid $26, the calamari was $9 which I had to pay for even though it wasn't edible. I ordered just appetisers, I don't want to think about the rest of the menu. I will never go back. Don't bring...
Read moreSo I was at Masses a long time ago (6 years+) when it was more of a seafood pick up and had a small family style restaurant. I have to say that the remodel is great. I like the bar and the bar tender was friendly. The only problem I have is that the food (while good) was not what I expected. I live in Kansas City (one of the BBQ meccas of the world) so I wanted lobster. And I hate to say what I got was not what I expected. I asked for baked / stuffed and I knew I was going to pay market prices but I didn’t really care as I knew I had a great experience when it was a family style restaurant. I ordered a 1 ½ lobster and what I got didn’t seem like a 1 ½ lobster as it was all stuffing. Next I did not receive any of the lobster claws. I mean I guess I didn’t understand. Every place I have been before servers the claws when you order a lobster. I mean did the cook eat them? Where did they go? And to boot I paid $38 for this. I mean really??? On the seafood pick up side of the house it is $14.99/lb for the lobster so that means that if I had ordered the lobster to go and did it at home I would have only paid $22.50 for it. So I guess the stuffing and the making of the lobster was worth $15.50. I mean I am all about paying for good food but this was not a good lobster. I will NEVER return to this place as the only thing good...
