Bar-B-Q Bill's — Restaurant in Chiefland

It was a very friendly place that was recommended by friends, and lots of locals were eating. The food was supposed to be awesome. Well, the food was OLD AND NASTY. We got a BBQ platter to share since we're not big eaters and we're excited to be eating out when we're camping. That's something we don't usually do. The food was really OLD food that was apparently left out, definitely reheated, it was so AWFUL. All of it was like eating old, last week's old leftovers. None of the meats were juicy or hot like it was recently cooked. The chicken was almost mushy. But the worst...WORST!!!! WAS THE BAD MEAT, THE SPOILED RIB THAT WAS SERVED TO US. OMG!! DISGUSTING!! I took a little taste of everything (carefully expecting more foul tastes) and I stopped eating. Then after informing the server (who was having a birthday cake celebration in front of us) she brought out another rib. Like we want that!! Umm heck no!! So disappointing. Not really feeling like making a scene, we just politely paid and left. Let me give you my opinion of what I believe is the problem for this restaurant: the food here is inexpensive, very cheap compared to every other restaurant we have ever visited. Logically, the food is very low quality. They must buy very cheaply to have such low prices, especially on meats. We've all been to the grocery stores. Meat is high, especially good quality meats. Their meat is like clearance meats from a Save a Lot type store. Low quality meats that have been mass cooked then funneled out to customers until gone?? I tell you, I have cooked all my life, especially grilled, BBQ, smoked meats. Also, I can tell when food is old. This food was OLD! I'm just glad we didn't get sick. Amen. Shockingly there were quite a few people there each time we passed it. Do they just serve the nasty, old stuff to strangers in town? 🤣 Do not go here. Just be safe and cook for yourself. Or drive a ways away to another restaurant. SORRY to the people that like this place. You should taste some fresh cooked, hot & juicy quality meats. I think you would all be amazed. I can tell this place is 5 star to the locals, and may get dragged for saying this, but as a pass thru customer it fell a bit short for me. I have a rule not to eat at places we can eat at home while vaca, and we stopped here on a trip home from the ichetucknee with hight hopes since the parking lot was jam packed. I got salad bar with my meal, and half the items I got seemed off- like turning sour. I hate wasting food so I picked around the sour stuff until I got a mouthful of eggshell from the boiled eggs... called it quits after that. Was looking forward to my pork plate but instead got a rib platter, which is what hubby ordered. I NEVER send food back so I decided to keep it to avoid confrontation. Ribs were pretty tough. The coleslaw was great, the baked beans awesome, and the green beans were very tasty. The French fries came out and there was a lot of oil residue in the bowl with nothing to soak it up and based on the color you can tell they are way overdue to change the fryer oils. My kids has chicken tenders and those were pretty good. The ranch was tasty too. The tea was fresh and refreshing. While the waitress apologized for the salad situation, I am a little miffed it didn't get taken off our bill since you can tell by the full plate I didn't eat it and my lunch order was wrong. We went for lunch and was seated quickly. There are lots of menu options to choose from. I ordered the beef sandwich on garlic toast. it was super tasty and the salad bar was delicious withlots of variety Such as, potatos, nachos, cheese and chili. Wonderful Service with smiles.☺ we will visit again. Updated I did in fact visit again for dinner 02/06/2023- It didn't go well. We asked to sit in a servers section that had given great service years before and went down hill from there. Her service wasn't good at all. We were sat at a smaller table across from a bigger dirty table, that hadn't been cleaned the entire visit, she forgot our sweet teas, that tasted like dirty warm and old tea. We ordered the salad bar, which was good, and a grilled chicken breast, which she suggested was "good". The chicken was scorned from skillet, lacked any flavor and was equillivant to a hockey Puck. I offered a waitress apron I had purchased and indeed not going to use, maybe it will inspire to give better service when personally asked for. The cook should never put out a bad dish when in competition to the fresh and better tasting food off the salad bar. The soup offered was "veggie burger" and the way she described it was more for a dog's diet. Maybe Pass on chefs food for a while.
