J T's Drive-In — Restaurant in Childress

J.T.'s is one of our family's favorite stops when driving through Childress,Texas. We have gone out of our way on trips just so we could stop in at J.T.s. the place is an old school, roadside burger joint.

My favorite item on the menu is the bacon cheeseburger. This burger features a well seasoned and sizable patty. The burger is well dressed with mayo or mustard, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. The bun is slightly toasted. This creates a juicy and flavorful burger. Add some fries and a soft drink and you will leave feeling satisfied. That's going to run you about $12 at the moment, but this is a pretty big thick burger made from fresh beef. The stockyards are just up the street from the roadside restaurant.

You can dine inside or sit at the picnic tables outdoors. Staff is friendly, and the locals line up to eat here. I believe you will enjoy the unpretentious atmosphere and the tasty...

Stopped here on the way back to Houston from Amarillo. Our new favorite stop! For a diner style burger it doesn't get any better. Spot on, grilled, fresh bun. Flavorful hamburger patty perfect size for the bun. I'm picky about onion rings so rarely eat more than a bite but these are cooked in the type of batter I look for n came out hot n crispy. (Just a bit greasy but splitting hairs - they were pretty spot on). The fries we wouldn't order again. Lots of sides to choose from we would rather try (like the pickle fries). We just aren't fans of battered fries. None of this took away from the burger though so giving them a 5 for small town diner gem of a find. Authentic ambience, divey but in a good way. We drove through Childress on our way to Colorado and wanted to stop at a local spot. We love an old school burger joint, and this fit the bill!

My boyfriend got the bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, and hush puppies. I got the cheese fries. All were delicious!

All food is made fresh and made to order, so don’t be in a hurry. It’s worth the piping hot fried deliciousness! There is a server there who is absolute sunshine, and calls everyone baby which made us feel right at home.

I loved the cheese fries so much I wanted them on the drive back home, so we stopped again. Boyfriend got the chicken sandwich that go round and it was delicious! I tried the fried catfish and it was great as well!
