$31 for one meal? I’m not usually one to gripe about prices. I think if you’re serving something great, you can charge whatever you want because it’s an experience and a memory that will last. This, however, seems egregious. I tried this meal before at a different location and loved it. I got the black berry stuffed French toast. It was delicious the first time I ever had it. It’s like a fat bear claw but instead of apple, it’s black berry. Here at the chino location, it was alright. Wasn’t bad. I can make excuses all day long for why this might be. I might not have been so hungry. Different locations will always vary, even with the same meal. This is a big business with workers that probably come and go so balancing consistency and quality is always going to be tough. I also believe in tipping so even though I was handed a bill for $26, I didn’t automatically jump to punishing the servers by leaving out a tip. The servers were great. The cooks are working hard. They’re all doing their part… I’m just concerned because for a bit of scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, an orange juice and a French toast, $26 seems pretty steep (not to mention the 18% tip I added on). While I feel like it’s fine, I don’t really feel inclined to stop in again. I love diners and I feel like my money would be better spent at a mom and pop shop where I’d get just as good if not slightly better quality for half the price and it would be contributing to a community business, not a giant conglomerate that even posts on their paper how many locations they have and what year they opened. Seems like a weird flex for a place that wants to seem down-home. I’ll come back with family if family elects to come, but on my own, I’ll be going elsewhere.

First let me start off by saying I had an amazing server who tried to make everything right. I ordered my food and she brought me my coffee and water. I went to the restroom I come back my table has been cleared. I should have left at that point what was I thinking. I ordered the steak medium rare and eggs over easy. I ask what cut it is and she said it’s “specialty steak”. I should have known. They bring my food out and my egg yolk had broken and sat under the heat lamps too long so I end up with two hard yolks sunny side up. I ask for new eggs and they bring me back my plate with the same eggs and put another on top of the broken egg. I try to cut my losses and enjoy my bad breakfast and cut into my steak and it’s dry as cowhide and medium well. It’s then I just ask for my bill and decide to leave. I was going to pay for my coffee. She brings the manager and he says you don’t have to pay for your breakfast. Of course I don’t I never ate lol. He says he asked them to make me new eggs and they didn’t follow instructions. He offers to make me a new breakfast but I cut my losses and move on to my next breakfast spot. Beware of the Black Bear! You might be mauled!!!

Had a disappointing lunch at Black Bear Diner. I ordered a turkey club and expected the usual triple stacked sandwich and got this. Seriously, I thought it was a mistake. I paid nearly $14 for this half a sandwich. I asked the waiter if it was a mistake. He took it to the kitchen, talked for a minute, then came back and said that's what you get. A closer look revealed that they stuck 2 halves together, so it looked like half a sandwich. When I pulled them apart, there was so little meat, that it was more like a very thin bread sandwich. The service also was not great. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Cheers, friends! Update: Black Bear Diner requested details from my visit. I sent a detailed message with the photo to them. Waiting to hear their resolution. I explained I don't want a refund or free meal. My purpose for posting is to provide feedback to businesses, our community, visitors, and folks just passing through. They should revamp their club sandwiches to what every other restaurant serves instead of this skimpy one that's mostly bread. I'll let you know how it goes. Cheers, friends!

Black Bear Diner is worth a visit for the atmosphere. Everything, from the building and entry way, to the waiting area, to the dining spaces, to the bathroom is on theme. Even the waitstaff are decked out in bear paw suspenders (available for purchase at the register). Outside of the atmosphere, the experience is average. The 50s-newspaper style menu is cute, but the service is a bit slow. The food is well portioned and not too expensive, but the quality is nothing to write home about. The waitstaff is responsive, but not affable. The redeeming feature of my dining experience was the desserts: the huckleberry ice cream is original (and tasty!) and the blackberry cobbler was delicious. Overall, Black Bear Diner is worth a visit for the experience or a drop-in when you're in the area anyhow, but it won't be replacing my local favorites. The novelty of its atmosphere may wear off, but it's a solid diner.

I recently visited Black Bear Diner in Chino with my husband and his family, and we had a fantastic experience! From the moment we walked in, the cozy, rustic atmosphere made us feel right at home. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring our drinks were always full and our needs were met. The menu had a great variety of options, making it hard to choose! I ended up going with the signature stuffed bear pancakes, and they were absolutely delicious—fluffy and packed with flavor. My husband loved the classic burger, which was cooked to perfection. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals, and we couldn't resist trying a few desserts to share. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of food. Overall, it was a lovely family outing, and we left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. I highly recommend Black Bear Diner if you're in the area!
