Hello Readers. I do not typically leave reviews, but had to after the encounter my wife (who is handicap at this time, this review is under her name by the way) and I (24 year disabled veteran) arrived at Sura Korean BBQ on this evening 11/23/2024 at around 5:50pm We walked in and the place was about 30% capacity with plenty of tables available throughout the establishment. We informed the hostess of my wife’s injury after she offered us a small table near an open door and one where there is not enough room for my wife to have her leg extended. Once we notified her, she mentioned she would get us a table to accommodate her with her injury. What happened next is alarming with ZERO attention to detail. The hostess brought this to her manager and he offered the same table as previously offered and when I told him we would like to sit in an area open for my wife to extend her injured leg, he did not accommodate. The table he offered as handicap was not accommodating enough as it was in the back and in a small confined space next to the bathroom doors. I mentioned to him, you have plenty of space and he insisted the table offered was satisfactory. Totally wrong as my wife would not be able to eat in comfort. When I asked this gentleman if he was the manager and he answered, yes. I asked for his name and he gave a name as Mark. Being a common name, I want to ensure we have the correct Mark. Being sensitive to his identification, I asked for his last name initial as I do not want to know his full last name for his own protection and level of comfort. Even that was an issue. He then disappeared and just left us hanging at the door. Beware of this mismanaged establishment when Mark is working. We have come here a few times since it opened and enjoyed ourselves enough to even perpetuate this restaurant as a place to go. Mark in this case…..MISSED the mark completely and this night was deemed at Sura as one that is UNSATISFACTORY. As a leader in my own profession, there are multiple tactful levels of handling this and Mark FAILED miserably. Saddest thing yet is I mentioned to him as he was walking away from us that we also may be associated with the owners’ group and that did not matter. We will be contacting ownership as we may have common friends, so they too are aware. After many years in HR myself, it is time for Mark and maybe others at Sura to know what the American With Disabilities Act means for patrons at a restaurant. Thank you. BTW Thanks to HANU had great accommodations...
Read moreMoved to Chula Vista in 2019 and it's been slim pickings as far as nice food places go. There are a couple AYCE Korean BBQ spots around but we've been hoping for one closer to us. When Sura popped up on my Yelp we were pretty excited to try. Luckily, the Yelp app allows us to join the waitlist as there were plenty of groups eager to try this newly opened place as well.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly man at the check in station. We let them know it was myself, my wife, and our 9-month old child. They were very accommodating, quickly offering a high chair and parking our stroller off to the side.
Looking around the place for the first time, there's plenty of tables. On the waiting list, we noticed a group of 11 and they can totally handle that big of a group. Each grill has its own fan that raises and lowers. Benches and chairs were comfortable.
There are three options to choose from for meat selection. We went with the cheapest which has a list of meats you can order from the server and access to buffet items that include: meat bar, banchan, AND fountain drinks are INCLUDED. There's also a soft serve ice cream machine that has vanilla, chocolate, and swirl. Also included!
Our server, Mark, was very nice and attentive. He stopped by often to ask if we wanted to order more meat and provided needed grill changes without us having to ask. Hope we get him again when we return.
Final thoughts: The price is nice and I love the fact that drinks and ice cream are included. The buffet section is a huge plus for me. I know some may not like to get their own stuff, but I don't mind it at all. I think it's pretty cool. All in all, a great experience and we'll definitely be back. We noticed there was a lunch pricing as well. So we'll...
Read moreWe came at 8/21 9PM and were greeted by the host/server. He went over the menu and gave us a heads up that the last call was at 9:40PM. This was perfect since we were only planning on grabbing a quick bite. As he got the table set up and ready to seat us, someone ran to the front who seems to be a manager looked very upset. Rather than communicating to us, he aggressively tapped on his watch at the host, who then after apologetically took the menus back from us and told us we couldn’t be seated anymore because last call “changed” to 9PM. As we walked out they shut the door behind us. The experience then became very unwelcoming and rude. The establishment still had a few groups of people seated and eating, but felt really slow to not be accepting customers. An hour is more than enough time for a quick bite, especially for a self serve style KBBQ spot. Why turn away supporting customers? It’s a bit inconsiderate especially for those who’s a bit far from here.
At least follow your own listed hours of operations. Make changes online as we could openly join the online waitlist through multiple platforms, and last call doesn’t seem to he listed on the menu.
For as establishment who’s soft opening, this was unprofessional, inconsiderate, and a bad...
