La Sabrosita — Restaurant in Chula Vista

My family and I tried to go here tonight. We were sat immediately and the atmosphere was nice with the mariachi playing. We were served chips and salsa. Unfortunately, from there it went downhill fast. After getting served chips and salsa no one ever came back to take our food or drink order. We waited for a good twenty minutes. We tried to get the servers attention, but it seemed like they were trying to avoid us. The restaurant was not busy at all. Other people came in after us and were immediately served and their order taken. As another reviewer on yelp mentioned this seems to be a racist establishment. We were the only Asian family in there and it seemed like they were trying to make it clear by avoiding us, that we were not welcome there. We finally decided to leave. My husband spoke to the hostess and let her know what happened and all she said was so sorry you should have alerted me. But the thing was she had conveniently disappeared for a while so we couldn't alert her. So we were disappointed to say the least. We have a lot of friends and family that come to visit us and we will definitely not be taking them here or recommending this place to anyone. My four year old was in tears when we left because she was excited to go to a restaurant and we had to have the awful conversation of why you don't stay at a place that treats you the way we were treated. On July 2, 2025, at around 2pm, I had a deeply upsetting experience at La Sabrosita on Birch Road in Chula Vista.

My server, Patty, brought me two tacos—a Tijuana taco and a surf and turf taco—served with two salsas: a tomato-based one and a tomatillo-based one. The tomatillo salsa tasted noticeably sour, so I immediately switched to the tomato-based salsa. Unfortunately, it was too late. About 30 minutes later, I started feeling ill and had to make multiple trips to their bathroom—security cameras might even show me rushing in. The discomfort was so severe that I felt embarrassed and ended up visiting another nearby restaurant to use their bathroom as well.

When I returned to La Sabrosita to address the issue, I spoke with Patty, who informed me the manager wasn’t present. I explained my situation, but she became very defensive, stating she called the manager, who refused a refund because I had finished the meal. I clarified that I felt fine during the meal but got sick shortly after, likely from the bad salsa. Patty dismissed my concerns, insisting the salsa was ‘perfect’ and that other customers had no issues with it. Today I not only had the worse customer service but the food was terrible. I ordered the chilaquiles culichi and the food was cold when it got to our table. The waitress Dee was the worse part of the experience itself. She took a long time to come get our order, she brought our order after almost an hour of waiting by then the food was cold. My wife asked for a water and the water never arrived. When we were getting ready to pay she had an attitude when we asked her to split the bill she came an threw the receipt to my wife on the table. My wife asked about paying with Applepay and she just said No when our friend has used Apple Pay before. This was my first and last time coming to this place. When we spoke to the Manager Hector about Dees poor attitude and lack of customer service she shoves her shoulder on my wife and tells Hector why are you apologizing to them. Not only was she rude and disrespectful but she pushed my wife and nothing was done to correct her. People like Dee are the ones who kill businesses. If you go to this restaurant make sure to be prepared for cold food specially if Dee is your server. Maybe some boxing gloves and a body cam in case Dee gets out of hand and pushes you.
