Best italian food in chicagoland area. Unfortunately the staff is rude to non regulars and people who know the staff get to walk to the front of the line - which is especially unacceptable when youve waited almost 30min in cramped little room like I have just to get cut by someone who's on first name basis with the worker. Little does this staff know I was a regular years ago when I lived in 61st and ogden but have since moved to the west coast and staff I remember has long been replaced. Every time I'm in town I make a point to stop here but it is not what it once was. Back in the 90s it wasn't a big deal to wait in a much shorter line to be told they are cash only. Today with how popular it's become and with how blatantly exasperated staff gets about being cash only you would think common sense would've told someone to put up a "cash only" sign. You are better off just placing an order for pickup but make sure you know what you want before calling. Also be sure to arrive for pickup probably no later than 5or 10min after you say you'll be there or they will say something condescending about your punctuality. I was this late last time I picked up a pizza and got raked over the coals by not only the guy who brought the Pizza to me, but the lady that I placed the order with. Then when I was there to pick up the pizza I decided I wanted to add a handful of jars of jardiniera to my order which they then got irritated with adding to my order. They literally ignored me, started to help the next customer and I had to interrupt the person behind me to buy those "cash only" jars of jardiniera instead waiting in a long line during rush hour. With the amount of strict rules and regulations this place expects you to abide by just to navigate through their store as a "cash only" paying customer you'd think they'd have put up some signs posted upon entry stating the rules and...

I would not recommend Freddie’s pizza to anyone. The pizza is pretty good but the customer service is horrible. I was informed today by the manager, Vanessa, that I could buy a pizza and pick it up bit Freddies could not and would not deliver to me anymore. It was because I complained a few times when my pizza was messed up and my fries were old, cold and not fresh at all. I have been ordering pizza from Freddies for way over five to six years and the management team thought this is how they should treat me. I have gotten other family members and friends to buy pizza from Freddies. I don’t know who they think has $30 to $35 to spend on pizza or anything else and it is not good. So I should be penalized for my right to complain when I spend my hard earn money? I’m not done with this situation either but I wanted everyone to be aware of their business practices. They should take their personal feelings out of the situation and think about how they would feel if someone said to them, “We can’t deliver to you anymore but you can come and pick your order up.” What kind of foolishness is this when you have a delivery service that’s part of your business. I hope the owners or someone in a jogger level of management sees this because she said that it was coming from “Upper Management “ also. I would love to talk with someone from upper management because I believe this is just one or two young ladies that really don’t understand business or customer service at. She should go to school and take some classes in business and customer service because I was taught when a customer complains that that is the perfect time to say, “Thank you.” I am very unhappy and I will tell all of my family and friends to stop doing business with Freddie’s Pizza on 31st and Inion in the...

Freddy’s could be the best restaurant in the Chicago area. It is hidden in the west side at 16th and Austin in Cicero. It is cafeteria style, but the food is beyond delicious. I’ll start with the pizza. Their margarita is their specialty. The crust is crunchy then chewy. Then it is smothered in a perfect sauce, cheesy, then basil, sausage or supersetta. Then there is calamari pizza, mmmmm. Entres include lemon chicken, rigatoni with vodka sauce, chicken parmesan, Marcella, sausage, salads galore. Their fish salad is quite possibly the best thing I ever tasted. Squeeze a lemon on top. I have not even mentioned the deli section yet. I have been here many times but have never really delved into the sandwiches. I really like the lemon chicken and I usually take a piece of pizza home. The gelato is the best I have tasted. Smooth as silk and very tasty. The prices are a bit on the high side, but I don’t mind splurging on it, it is the best. I just talked to the owner, and he made his way out to say hello. He has been making the recipes since 1968. The markdown for atmosphere is because there really isn’t any. It doesn’t need it. It has its own street corner and that’s it. Don’t expect a fancy shmancy restaurant, but the street corner on 16th and 61st street makes for a romantic backdrop. Anne and Joe are the owners and cooks, say hello when you visit. IT IS CASH...

Place is a bit overrated in my opinion. Who wants to stand in a cramped deli for 20 minutes and get ignored by the cashier when you finally get there and you're ready to order? Has happened twice now. I get up there and the bearded guy looks over at me, starts acting like he's going to acknowledge me then just walks away. First time I ended up standing there for 15 minutes before one of the ladies realized that I might not have been helped and proceeded to help me. The ladies are always helpful and have good attitudes, the one guy is either moody or discriminatory. They only accept cash and you're expected to know what you want before you get to the counter otherwise the bearded guy especially gets angry. You'd think with the frustration they experience everyday with being so busy they'd standardize and get a credit card machine and scanners or at least 4Square, but no. Food is OK, I wouldn't call it fantastic. Maybe it'd taste a bit better if it weren't so expensive. Everytime I go here I end up paying $35 for a complete meal which sometimes I would point to error on the cashier since they don't have scanners. Seems like this place owes me $40 everytime I leave. Overall, for decent authentic homemade Italian food you get poor service, a poor experience, and a hole in your wallet. Not worth it in my book.

This small italian grocer makes some of the best subs in Chicgoland. It was packed for being a Friday lunchtime in a Cicero neighborhood corner. One thing to note is that this a CASH ONLY establishment. With that said, the prosciutto sub is a classic. Served on a foot long baguette; the crusty yet soft bread absorbs all the juices from the hot giardeneria and its toppings. The fresh mozzarella slices are ample and creamy. But the star is the salty and nutty prosciutto, that is so flavorful, it easily cuts through the bread and toppings. This is arguably one of the best sub sandwiches in the metro area. Also tried a slice of their pan style sausage pizza, which was cheesy, salty, crisp, chewy and meaty. Not quite deep-dish but was still a huge treat. The single slice is a full meal imo. The prices are fair if not quite economical!! Well worth the visit. All the staff and owner are friendly and accomodating. Eat in their detached dining hall for the full experience!
