Incredible food, incredible service, too popular!

If there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, it's that this Dewey's Pizza is so fantastic that it's hard getting a table without an hour wait! I visited some friends in the neighborhood (walking distance - so tempting) and we went Friday around 6:30 and Saturday around 6 and both times we were met with an hour wait. Luckily on Sunday we went right after the Bengals game - maybe 5, 5:30 and were immediately seated. Good thing we did - by the time we left, it looked like there was a decent wait.

Phenomenal service. I love how every server there assists every table. I don't know why more restaurants don't do this. You know what I mean - you're at a half empty (or full) place, you're out of water, you see a bunch of servers walking around/cleaning/goofing off, but can't find yours so you're out of luck. That's not happening here. Someone will just zip on by, snag your drink, and bring you a refill before you even know it. Someone else might stop by and bring you a box for leftovers and someone else might bring your check. It's so much more efficient and provides better service.

This isn't even mentioning the fantastic pizza. Very delicious, lots of great options. Southwest BBQ Chicken is a favorite, as was their seasonal pizza I'm blanking on. Great food, great service, decent price, just a crazy line. If only they expanded their dining area a bit it...

I placed a carry out order. And the pizza was pretty good. But not great. And not what I have come to expect from Dewey’s which has been superlative for many years. I’ve been ordering from the original Oakley location since it opened. So why wasn’t the pizza so great? Mostly because they skimped on ingredients. Not enough cheese. Or pepperoni. Or onions. And the pizza was not cheap.

Here’s my other concern. After I placed my carry out order, I was asked if I wanted to add a gratuity. What’s up with that? One of the reasons I order carry out is because I don’t want to add 15% or 20% for the server. But now they’re asking for a gratuity when a customer orders, carry out? I know that that seems to be the trend. But I’m not a fan. The employees who are filling my order should be paid minimum wage or more. Not the typical reduced hourly wage that servers are paid (which is ridiculous) which is why I tip generously when I eat in a restaurant. Because I know servers are paid a reduced hourly wage. And customers are supposed to tip well. But why should the customer pay an additional gratuity for employees that are already being paid At least minimum wage (and hopefully more) by the company…?

Bottom line, I would encourage Dewey’s to refrain from asking carryout customers to pay a gratuity. Also, if this company wants to keep my business, the quality of their pizza needs to...
