OK - so we rarely stay anywhere other than Hilton properties. Matter of fact the weekend before we had stayed at a fabulous one. This one just doesn't even come close to meeting Hilton standards. VERY VERY disappointing.
Let's start with the good. We were greeted at check in by a very friendly & welcoming young man, mentioning us as Hilton Honors members. He explained everything very well and showed us to the area to get our complimentary waters. Hotel seemed clean from the lobby perspective, albeit a bit dated.
Now to the room …. it was very quiet and the bed was very comfortable - but not particularly clean. The floor & carpet were VERY dirty and the carpet was worn & had "pulls" in it with strings out where it had caught on something. Dishwasher was full of clean dishes, so WE put them away!? We've stayed at Homewood Suites before & while it was not the cleanest room, we do enjoy the real "kitchen" & full size fridge when you're there for a few days.
Also the bathroom sink had a very noticeable crack in the sink. Shower walls had hair on them -- clearly they had not been cleaned very well either. So definitely below Hilton standards on cleanliness - which is even more disconcerting during this time of COVID. And we find it odd that this hotel does NOT have in room suites. That seems to be standard in most places.
OK ... now to the really GROSS. We had got ice at the 5th floor ice machine earlier in the trip & there was an ice cube that looked like it had a bit of dirt in it. We didn't think too much about it & just removed it. Then the next time we got ice from that machine - while filling it I noticed another ice cube that clearly had something in it. After we got to the room, we put it in one of the glasses & as it began to melt you could clearly see that it contained some kind of worm!!!! Seriously disgusting!!! Needless to say - that was the last time we got ice from that machine! Makes you kind of wonder about the entire hotel at this point.
So my husband took it to the lobby to show the hotel personnel on duty. Their only response to "We're in (room number) and this just came out of the 5th floor ice machine." Their only response was "OK, I'll call maintenance to have them take a look at it." NOTHING else. No "I'm so sorry that this happened" or anything!!!
So when you put all of the cleanliness issues together -- it definitely didn't meet a typical cleanliness test.
Complimentary breakfast was very sub par as well. Aside from the pre-packaged items (cereal & yogurt) it lacked taste and diversity. First day was what appeared to be mini omelets with peppers & onions, and smoked sausage for the meat. The following day was scrambled eggs with some kind of heavy seasoning in them & sausage (again) patties with biscuits & a heavily peppered gravy. While there were waffles daily, we tried them the 1st day and for some reason (mix perhaps?!) they were not good at all. We ended up with a couple of muffins to call it breakfast. Oh and while there were apples available for "fresh fruit" the other fresh fruit was canned "fruit cocktail" (yes, really) and the somewhat unusual choice of cottage cheese?
On the second breakfast morning while looking at the options for the morning there were two women in the Kitchen fighting & yelling back & forth at each other - and the door was open. Kind of didn't present the best atmosphere. However, the woman cleaning up the dining area did at least greet people every morning!
When we checked out, we were never asked how was your stay or anything similar. There was no mention of the worm in the ice from the ice machine or anything else. Nothing. Just "OK, here's your receipt."
So we cannot recommend this hotel and I have no idea how it gets 4 stars on here. It badly needs a refresh and severe cleaning -- maybe of personnel as well (minus the great check...
Read moreCraziest Worst Hotel Experience ||In summary don’t stay at Homewood suites Midtown Cincinnati!!! They may screw up your reservation, let strangers in your room, rebook you but forget to tell you it’s not for the whole stay you were expecting, enter your room and touch your belongings, throw out some of your stuff, shove your stuff in a cart and essentially evict you due to an error on their part. ||I booked a five night stay at the Homewood Suites In Midtown in Cincinnati a week before my business trip and had a confirmation email. I checked in on Sunday evening with no issue. Monday after a long work day, I returned to the hotel, my key card did not work and there was a stranger in my room watching tv. Totally unsettling seeing that I was a woman by myself and the man in my room who could have went through my stuff or touched my underwear and toothbrush. We went down to front desk to figure it out with an employee. It was determined my reservation was marked as a “no show” in error. The front desk clerk got the man another room and she made me a new reservation so I could keep my original room. The employee said she would tell billing to give me 50k points and a free food item from the snack bar. I was okay with this, but the next day someone called at 5pm and told me I would need to get my stuff out of the room because the hotel was booked. I explained I had a reservation through Friday but that I would be at the hotel at 6:30pm to discuss with them. I arrived at 6:20 and asked for the manager. She was not available so I waited in the lobby. About 5 mins later I asked again for the manager and was told the manager was in my room packing my stuff. I was appalled! I told her, “why didn’t you tell me?! I would want to pack my own stuff and not have a stranger go through my things!” Feeling completely mortified someone was touching all my stuff (clothes, underwear, toothbrush, makeup etc) I quickly got to the elevator, to find the manager. I found her in the hallway with a cart with all my stuff shoved inside, some in the suitcase some just loose. I had a heated conversation with the manager and the only answer she could give me was that the “no show” opened my room for other reservations and the hotel was booked and she could not give me any room. I told her the front desk employee gave me a new reservation the night before and knew it was thru Friday. To which she explained the hotel was already booked and she only could have only given me the one night. So I asked, why didn’t that employee tell me the reservation was only for one night?! I could have packed my bags and found a new hotel earlier that day. To say I was infuriated would be an understatement. The manager said she discussed this situation with her GM and they decided I should be moved out. So essentially I was evicted, they broke our contract due to a mistake by the hotel. I got the GM and the managers business cards and asked for a call with the GM but the manager said she was off work. I called the GM on my own and left an irate message. I had to pack all my stuff in my car, find a new hotel, unpack my stuff. Lost about 2 hours of my life and experience extreme frustration and anger. Later I found that my food items in refrigerator were not packed and likely thrown out.||The GM left a voicemail message the next day and apologized. She said she would make sure I get the 50k points (equivalent to one free night at their hotel). ||Unfortunately I don’t feel this comes anywhere near to make me feel better about the situation, and does make up for the repeated mistakes the...
Read moreIf you need an extended stay in Cincinnati, this is the one! I had the opportunity to stay in a king suite room at Homewood Suites in Oakley recently and I was so pleasantly surprised! Check in was very friendly and fast, the lobby area was contemporary yet warm and welcoming. There is a large area where a great breakfast is served daily. I was hungry the next morning, so I was super pleased that the breakfast offerings included scrambled eggs, cheese omelets, bacon and sausage, WAFFLES 😉, Danish, bagels and other baked goods, yogurts, granola and very nice cocktail of mixed fresh fruits. Coffee, teas, juices, were all there...along with a number of things I can't even remember. It was well stocked, hot foods were hot and cold foods were cold -- and the serving and dining areas were clean. It's a thing with this establishment. It was very clean. So this hotel is new to me, and pretty new to it's location. If you are staying in Cincinnati this location is perfect. Centrally located, it is easy access to quite literally every highway yet perched in a new little neighborhood development in Oakley. The area around the hotel are new and intentional. But I was surprised at the walk-ability. Sidewalks everywhere. We walked to a bar for cocktails. We walked to any number of restaurants as our choice for dinner. We walked to a large Kroger for groceries (for when you want a stash of fruit, some favorite teas and well...some late night ice cream, for later). The suite was quite nice. Our room was located on the 5th and highest floor. Decor is lovely, and must be well constructed as it was very very quiet, despite having a number of neighbors and being close to the elevators. We heard nothing. Nothing at all. The rooms were very pretty and well designed and configured. Check for my posted images for specifics but I was so pleasantly surprised!! Here on business but want to have a full size fridge (with freezer!)? Want to have a nice little kitchen to mix your morning smoothies after your workout in the well appointed gym and indoor pool? This is the place. Just Perfect! Here visiting family or bringing your kids on vacation? This is just perfect! And, bonus....plenty of up front, designated parking for those who need it, AND if hybrid or electric is how you roll! And, bonus....fill out a shopping list and the grocery service will stock your room. So don't hesitate to book a stay at this Homewood Suites location...we were totally happy with every aspect...
