We went back for more pizza and added more to our review.
How good is a pizza? A) When you order enough for 4, only 3 show up and there is no pizza left. B) When the simplest cheese and tomato pie is as good as the more elaborate creations.
We previously devoured the Pepperoni and Olive. This time we ordered 1/2 Garlic and Greens and 1/2 Mushroom and Onions and One Plain pizza, as well as a Cesar Salad complete with anchovies, croutons and dressing (all ingredients are individually separated, to be combined at home)
The ricotta makes the Garlic and Greens very creamy and delicious. This is our new favorite.
The Mushroom and Onions was not a favorite as it was not as flavorful as the other two which surprised me as the Plain pizza was so delicious that is even better than the mushroom onion pizza.
The Caesar salad lettuce was fresh, had large lettuce leaves with a slightly tangy delicious dressing, accompanied by large croutons, shredded cheese and two containers with anchovies. It is enough for two, but feeds more.
The ingredients chosen by St Francis A Pizza make such a different in the final flavor as well as the treatment they give to their airy, light crust. Their pizza is also light and absolutely not oily.
Our first review of St Francis a Pizza
Delicious pizza. The selected ingredients led to a delightful flavor experience. The crust is both light and airy with a right amount of char. It was easy to eat all of the pepperoni and olive (one size 16”, 8 slices) pizza in one sitting as it was not greasy at all as well as very flavorful. Easy parking also makes it easy to pickup. We will order more of their delicious pies to try other fresh flavors and ingredient...
Read moreExcellent food made and served by people who love their craft. I almost don't know what else to say other than that their raison d'être is so obviously just to make excellent pizza.
I could sing the praises of pretty much everything about this place. The Cincy Supreme may well be the best meal in the city. The take-and-bake pizzas are unbelievably good considering convenience and bang-for-your-buck. The side sauces are great and totally worth an extra couple bucks, especially the spicy ranch.
My only critical note is that the garlic cheese bread was very garlicky. Cool for garlic hounds, but I'll probably try out the black pepper option next time. I presume it still has garlic, just not a clove per slice.
Minutiae: Online and onsite payments are breezy. Parking/access was fine. I'm not sure why you'd need me to note this in a random review, but it's takeout only. Plenty of interesting alcoholic drinks for sale at reasonable prices and some cookies for dessert. Consider ordering pizzas lightly baked, but I'll have to order more to really form an opinion there. I don't exactly love olives, but unless you're extremely olive averse I wouldn't be too wary of olive pizzas here - I usually forgo olives, but they took nothing away from and probably enhanced the supreme pizza for me. I haven't sampled their veg/vegan offerings, but I think it's dope that they provide them. I assume they're quite tasty.
Looking forward to trying more stuff from here. Hopefully I'll remember to update with...
Read moreThis is the best pizza in Cincinnati. My wife and I visited St. Francis last night for our first time and for my birthday. I'm a pizza fanatic and have eaten at many of the acclaimed pizza restaurants nationwide (e.g., NYC, New Haven, Chicago, LA, etc.). I also recently started to dabble in making my own pizza sauce and crust at home.
At St. Francis, we ordered one half & half pizza. One half was the Erie Ave (staff favorite) and the other half was pepperoni, sausage, & banana peppers (our typical pizza order).
I would describe their style of crust as a New Haven / NYC / Midwest hybrid. Meaning, the crust is crispy but not crackery and it has a great chewy texture but is not floppy (like many NYC pizzas). I think their website describes it well, "... influenced by our favorite pizza experiences in New York, New Haven, CT, and Portland, OR."
The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and delivered on making a great pizza. They also gave me a free order of their frozen pizza dough - after they heard it was my birthday and that I've been trying to make my own crust at home.
Also, their reheating instructions (on their website) for the pizza were spot on. And the pizza was just as good the next day.
My only critique is that I do think the "Apizza" in their name is a bit confusing since that's typically reserved for a strictly "New Haven" style of pizza (a thin-crust, coal-fired pizza that originated in New Haven, CT). But I know I'm being nitpicky...
