Yesterday was the first time I went to Big Chicken. I had watched it being built and thought I'd give it a try. Zach was very helpful in explaining everything in the menu I had questions about and even made some recommendations about his favorites.
I decided to order the grilled cheese and chicken sandwich combo (fries and a drink). My oldest ordered the dunks (nuggets) kids meal.
The food was greasy, but considering it was grilled cheese and fried chicken, it was to be expected. The Dunks were a little spicy according to my 5 y.o. which is probably due to the pepper in the coating. I had the pineapple drink and he had the fruit punch.
Overall, it was a good visit and I decided to bring my husband and youngest back today to try it.
Today we came in and it was much busier than yesterday. Both of my kids were a little crazy, but Natalia was amazing. She was able to help me select food for both boys and my husband (including sauces since they don't have regular mustard, which my youngest eats on everything). I had the Regular chicken sandwich and my husband ordered the Ultimate sandwich, all with fries and a drink.
Once we were situated with drinks, our food came out relatively quickly. The boys started to work on their dunks ( nuggets) and fries while my husband and I started on our sandwiches. My husband said their wasn't much flavor on his sandwich, and that it was kind of greasy and the BC sauce was lacking as well. My chicken sandwich had the biggest pickles I've seen on a sandwich ( yay!!), but the chicken was pretty rubbery and not like the chicken I had yesterday.
Natalia had circled around several times to ask how we were doing and if we needed anything else. My boys needed more ketchup for their fries and she was quick to bring it. ( Her customer service is excellent.)
I probably should have told her about the sandwich, but from what I could tell, there were more people in the kitchen which were probably training, and it's not her fault the food was not as good as it was yesterday. ( I think Cordero was the one cooking yesterday-- kudos to him on making the food great!)
Overall, Big Chicken is okay. I will probably wait another month or so to go back, so that they can continue to train the cooks on the food ( have Cordero teach whomever was working today how to season and cook the food)so that it is more consistent and not as bland. In addition, I think Natalia and Zach should become trainers for the others working the front of the house. They are both very knowledgeable and personable...
Read moreMy husband and I stood in line for over an hour, and it was definitely worth the wait, to be part of the Grand Opening for the first Big Chicken in Florida! We drove over 45 minutes to check it out!
Lucille's Mac N' Cheese is amazing, and you might need to order more than 1 portion to fully enjoy it. It's so delicious, and tastes very homemade. The franchise owners "don't know" the recipe, but it's in my top 5 now! This is a good recommendation for vegetarians.
Wheelchairs are able to roll onto the sidewalk easily, but the front door has to be physically opened, and there is no automated open feature. Tight squeeze for the seating areas with tables and chairs, but can be easily modified to accommodate a wheelchair. The staff is very helpful, and I would presume they'd happily move chairs for those in wheelchairs, or those using walkers (I saw a table was able to accommodate a walker today).
Speaking of the staff -- they are extremely attentive! They approach the tables to take away trash and order number stands, and seem happy to assist. The franchise owners (and maybe investors) and managers were so involved with the Grand Opening, and it was such an exciting event! They said they were thankful for us coming today, and they seem to have a very cool...
Read moreThis review is NOT influenced, just my black owned experience and opinion. I ordered the original chicken sandwich meal with mac-n-cheese and a 2 tender kids meal. The chicken on the sandwich tasted fresh and not frozen but it needs to be marinated for more flavor. The sandwich is not better than Chick-fil-a original. The mac-n-cheese reminded me of the nachos cheese used at the movies with a pinch of gouda with perfectly cooked noodles. Secret Recipe: Let cheese bag sit in hot water until warm, cut bag open and mix with noodles. Mix well then serve. Chick-fil-a and/or Popeyes macs are better. The bun didn't appear or tasted toasted. The tenders were juicy and bigger than Chick-fil-a but the flavor was not. My fries were not fresh but i asked for hot fries and they replaced them. Drinks are Pepsi products but I perfer Coke. Overall, Big Chicken had slightly bigger chicken and bigger prices but they do not have big flavor. The mac is very bland. The gold BBQ sauce was good and is needed to add flavor the big chicken as you eat it. Clean bathroom. Small restaurant, disciplined kid-friendly. I recommend trying it once for yourself but I will continue to go...
