I'll start off by saying that this was only my second time there and the first time was a really busy Saturday morning but I would have never expected this for my second time there. My son and I met my sister and nephew there. My son is 3, her son is 2. The first awkward incident was our waitress, came and asked if there was something wrong with my nephew because he was making loud noises. Asking if he had enough food or if there was something wrong with him, as if he was making those noises for any other reason except for the fact that HE'S 2. The waitress told us that the owner asked her to pay a visit to the table to make sure. I personally asked 3 passing by waiters for a to go box, the children had become antsy so we let them get up from their seats. Now yes, I am aware that them being out of their seat causes a safety hazard but they're kids and we're watching them. The hostess walked up to the kids and said that they needs to lower their voices and not be running around. They hadn't been that loud and quite frankly, they weren't even running around, they were within arms reach. I asked her not to address the children we are their mom's and she could speak with us directly, she became rude and abrasive. She stated that people in the restaurant were complaining bc they had been loud. I wish I could have recorded how these 2 and 3 year old children were acting and compare it to the rude and disrespectful way that the HOSTESS was acting. As she brought me the to go plate she continued to bagger us about the kids as if we didn't comprehend that children who ACT LIKE CHILDREN, weren't welcome in the establishment. Keep in mind that of the staff had brought the to go plate when it was asked for, then the children would not have been out of their seats for more then the time it took to walk out of the establishment. As we walked out, the HOSTESS (older, short heavy set lady, with a nasty attitude and unprofessional appearance) was speaking negatively in front of all the customers sitting in front of the cash register.
I'll never give that place another dollar of my hard earned money. I called and spoke with Bill who pretty much brushed all of my concerns off and his only response was that kids out of their seats caused a safety hazard. These are kids that we are speaking about. Had we brought them in with muzzles would that have been more appropriate? God bless them, but what if one of our children has some type of problem that they made noises for no reason, it proves that because they are children, They aren't welcome there.
I may pay the establishment another visit, next time with the who family. That's 2 kids for every 2 adults. And we'll see how things are...
Read moreMy arrival at Abby's a half an hour early had me looking for a way to kill time. Brunchies was a couple doors down and I had not had breakfast yet. They opened at 7am. Located on N. Dale Mabry in a busy plaza with a 5 Guys, Starbucks and BBQ place, the plaza houses an interesting array of businesses. Me, I frequent Abby's.
There was a diner vibe to the place. A counter dining option was to the left as you entered, a large wide open dining area in the middle as well as 2 separate meeting/dining rooms for groups off to the right. Kitchen at the back and most beverage options behind the dining counter. A well organized place but maybe a tad disheveled.
An extensive menu with loads of treats was in fine print so bring your glasses. Lots of delectable options but I found that many basic combos were missing in several categories. They did have the "build your own" option but that makes your basic ham and cheese omelet more expensive. Of the four "go to" items I usually order, none were on the menu.
I ended up ordering a cuban sandwich and a cup of coffee, $12 and $5. The cuban came with a side. She offered potatoes but I declined and she then listed the other options. I got a salad. The cuban was small and the taste while good was greasy and not tradionional. If I had to describe, I would say the salami tasted like a sharp pepperoni. I ate my salad, drank my coffee and ate half a sandwich. Took the rest home, it was dinner.
My experience was tarnished at the end when I got my bill and with tip, was $27. I examined my bill and found I was charged $4 for my salad, my side item. That left me fuming. I paid the bill, did not complain. I blame the server who should have told me that a salad, which she listed as a side option, was an upcharge of $4. To me, that's dishonest. Reminds me of servers that do not tell you a 20% gratuity is part of the bill and watch you add another 20%.
Not planning to go back. Things like that ruffle my feathers! Most reviewers have good...
Read moreDon’t normally write reviews but I feel compelled to due to poor customer service by a manager.
We’ve been eating at Brunchies for the last 20 years since it opened. Went for breakfast this morning and my wife ordered avocado toast. My food was fine but her avocado toast was not good. The avocado was brown and oxidized and tasted so, the lettuce on her plate was completely wilted, and the tomatoes were translucent and grainy. Clearly, all three had been sitting a while and did not taste good. She ate one of her poached eggs it came with and decided she was done. We let the server know that it wasn’t good and why, said we do not need anything else and she could just take the plate. Her first response was “of course, no problem, so sorry and I will take it off the bill as well”. That is good customer service.
The part that compelled me to write this review (which I never do) was that the manager came over, asked what was wrong with it (which we explained again) and then said “well can I at least charge you for the egg since she ate that?” ……… HUH?! Not once did the manager apologize for sub-par food, but then she ASKS if she can charge us for an egg? The egg cost $1.99……. Congrats you earned my $1.99 and a bad review. I didn’t even ask for her meal to be taken off the bill, but the server offered it because that is good customer service. Honestly I was dumbfounded that the manager would come to the table and not even apologize, then treat us like we were trying to get away with not paying for food that was fine. She ate one egg and tried to eat the rest, give me a break, it was bad. We get sometimes bad food comes out, that’s not a problem, it’s hard to run a restaurant perfect these days. But what the manager did afterwards earned them a bad review. I don’t know the managers name but she was wearing an Ecuador shirt and a backwards hat on the morning of 6/30.
We will stick to Kekes or the 54 location of Brunchies...
