Food is good, and considerably less expensive than the Armadillo, but service is just as slow as the Armadillo if not slower. Now it was a little busy as it was a Taco Tuesday, so I figured that was the norm. We waited 25 minutes before someone came to show us a table because it was still waiting to be cleaned. Got to sit down, waited another 25-30 minutes. There was lots of waitresses walking around looking busy. A lot of people, got it. But I noticed that a lot of them weren't really holding or carrying anything. Just a lot of walking back and forth. After 30 min my sister had to call out to one of them zipping by because they'd apparently forgot about us, just to take our order. Regardless of whatever bar or restaurant you go to, waiting 30-40 plus minutes for a drink is unacceptable. And we were friendly and patient the entire time so I'm think I'm being pretty reasonable here. After we had our food and drinks, most of the people were gone, as it was pretty late in the day. Like roughly 60% of the seats had freed up, so it was no longer busy. Turns out the service was just as slow. Here's probably why: the waitress had completely forgotten us, and only remembered the drink order when they finally got around to making eye contact with our table. Funny, the table next to us got a birthday thingie, and when we spoke to them he said it wasn't really his birthday, and that they were just messing with them because apparently they knew them. Interesting, so if you're a friendly regular you can actually get service. But they had time to do THAT in the first place right? Guess what, it was my birthday too(well the day before technically) and without my knowing my brother-in-law had told one of the waitresses secretly while going to the bathroom that it was my birthday and to hook me up. I didn't know about this until he told me later, when it was near closing time and almost another 30 min and no one came out to sing happy birthday. We left, because they were too busy hiding in the back either on their phone or talking(I had a view near the entrance of the kitchen so I could see what some of them were doing) and they didn't care enough about the customers. And why would they? Usually a restaurant/bar would at least ask at some point "do you need something?" or "how are you doing?" Not once. They all avoided eye contact, every single one of them, every single time they passed by. See, when you WANT good business, you don't do things like that because you want people to come back. However, since they seem to be doing pretty good for themselves with a crowded and loyal following they no longer need to chat you up or be nice or provide single service to customers. They've passed that stage I guess. Never did see the waitress that was told about the birthday order. Whatever, thanks for nothing. Won't be coming back here ever again. But you make enough customers so the opinion of a single guest won't mean crap. They're fast enough to clean up and walk to their cars if only they were as fast with the freaking orders. Also, felt like that episode of Seinfeld with the waitresses and the coffee shop. "There's definitely a pattern here." Seems a little creepy on the owner's part having small, petite, extremely young-looking girls with obvious cleavage clothing. And I get it, gets customers, because the Applebees by my old neighborhood did the same thing. But maybe they should hire more professional waitresses based on experience and NOT just for looks to bring people in. I suppose that sounds a bit judgy but I'm just calling it like I see it. This way you won't get forgotten and/or slow orders and unfriendly attitude. Maybe? For what it's worth the food and drinks were pretty good, at least. If you're not a regular or friends with them you won't get expedited...
Read moreWhat a great find! Spent the weekend in Kingston and had our first dinner at Santa Fe. The place is warm and inviting. We arrived around 6:15 on a Saturday and were able to get a high top table right away. Hostess was lovely, as was our waitress. Portion size is excellent. We ordered the fried plantains, sea bass tacos special, the chimichanga, and a half pitcher of margarita.
The fried plantains were delicious. They are marinated in some type of hot sauce (that's what it tasted like) and fried crispy. So good.
The sea bass taco dinner came with two very good sized tacos, rice and beans, and beautifully cooked mixed vegetables.
The chimichanga was HUGE. It was perfectly crisp on the outside, without being greasy at all. Delicious filling of chicken, tomatoes, onion, black beans, shredded cheese and queso fresco. It was also served with rice and beans and a salad.
Really ample portions. My partner cleaned his plate, but I had to take half of mine home. (Great leftover lunch!!) Food came out quickly as well.
We got 4+ drinks from the half pitcher margarita, which was only $25. Very tasty and they are not stingy on the alcohol. We thought that was a steal.
Our server (I believe her name was Bridget) was great. So were the other young women that checked in with our table.
It was a lovely date night spot, for an excellent price. We're from Westchester, where its not easy to find a nice spot for dinner and drink for under $100. Wish we could get a Sante Fe location down here. We'd be...
Read moreI went here in 12/18 for my daughters birthday. I thought it an odd place to choose out of all the restaurants in the area, but it wasnt my birthday. Anyways I ordered a steak burrito and surprisingly it was the single best burrito Ive ever had. Where I find myself picking sub par meat out of tacos and burritos from mexican restauants and taco bells the steak I got in that burrito was amazing. So much so that a couple weeks later I ordered takeout from their woodstock restaurant (its closer to me). Woodstock takeout was nothing in comparison to the dining in food in Kingston.
We went on a Friday and had we not made a reservation our wait probably wouldve been substantial. Even with a reservation it took close to an hour to get the food. Had the food been anything less than incredible the wait wouldve been enough to knock off a couple stars. Alas it was worth the wait. I will...
