I don't write reviews often, but I was so impressed by this unexpected jewel, I had to write one.
I needed to get out and grab a burger and my neighbor introduced me to this place- which I would have never known about and never noticed driving by it- and I am forever grateful.
You couldn't guess what is waiting behind the unassuming brick exterior. You can see the standard issue neon beer signs in the windows, and it gives you no indication of what to find. Inside is a sweet, calm, pretty interior- a little country, a little classy- and definitely low key. It is not a dirty, sticky, loud, dark bar like you find in the rest of the neighborhood. it was such a breath of fresh air. It was cool but not too hip, quiet but not too quiet, and friendly. The bar tender was such a sweetie (and cute), called me darling (made my night!). He'd refill my club soda without me knowing- my glass was never empty.
The food knocked me off my socks. I am rarely impressed with food since I cook a lot, and make everything home made from pasta to bread to sweets- but this place blew me away. EVERYTHING is home made- the bread, BBQ sauce, paper thin delicious pickles, and they grind their own meat for the burgers! The menu is small enough that you are not overwhelmed, and you know that everything is made with love and care. I had the mussels in what I can only describe as magic sauce- it was the most delicious mussels I've ever had in my life. Huge chunks of thick bacon floating in a garlicky, beer, rum based broth. They even gave me a spoon for when the bread was done and I had nothing left to dip. I could die for those mussels. Next was a burger- classic, with bacon, cheddar and onions. The burger was HUGE- almost too huge to bite, but I managed! The bacon was so thick, and the onion were piled on high. It's one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life. The fries, which normally I wouldn't think twice about- were amazing. They kept the skins on the end, and they had just enough salt-I hate it when my fries have no salt. This did not disappoint. My neighbor ordered Kiki's Potato salad- holy cow. It was cheesy, gooey, and incredible. I haven't tasted anything like that.
I could only eat half my food, I was so stuffed. Even as leftovers, an hour later, my husband wolfed it down and loved it. My only regret was not having the Nutella Bread Pudding that was WARM out of the oven and waiting for me! I just couldn't- there was no room. Next time, I'm getting that! And the duck poutine. And the potato pancakes.
I am writing this review so that this place is packed all the time, and never goes away. They need to spread the word, and people need to come! We are going to come here for our next ladies night, because this has now pushed my former 'favorite neighborhood place' down to #2 (I won't say who!).
This was downright incredible. I wish I could...
Read moreLove going to this Family owned Pub. The service is great and the food is amazing. The Chef is a trained Chef and not just a short order cook. You can definitely tell the difference in the quality and taste of the food. They go the extra mile to prepare the food with care and with the patrons experience in mind.
I ordered the Fish Fry. It was literally the BEST that I've had in my 53yrs. First, the fish was fresh, flaky and cooked to golden perfection. Their food is consistently cooked in CLEAN oil which really makes a big difference in the quality and taste of the food. What impressed me even more is that the Chef took the time to skin the fish resulting in the deliciously mild (and never fishy) taste.
My husband ordered the Poutine.. fries with gravy, cheese curds, and brisket pieces.. that were slow smoked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection.
They offer pub favorites such as hamburgers and fries, etc too. I love that you can experience the small pub, friendly atmosphere and experience creative and delicious food that you don't usually find at the average pub.
And, they follow all Health Department Guidelines...
Read moreDelicious! We were at a bar in the area, and one of the staff worked here as well and we took her advice to visit here, which was dead on! It has a small parking lot in the back, and there is some street parking around if you can find it. The back parking lot has a weird little turn in - so be on the lookout for that if you want to park there.
There is an entrance in the back to the location and we walked in through there and up to seating at the bar. The main entrance with the hostess is actually around the front. We ran into the same server we had at the other location and she was kind enough to help us out once again.
I strongly recommend the lamb burger. It was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The fries were well made and tasty! We decided on the chocolate cake dessert which came with fresh fruit and chocolate drizzle on top. It was a smaller portion, but really good! If you just want a sweet fix, you could share. If you are a cake lover, order two. :)
Staff was friendly and it felt very 'local' and like a part of the neighborhood.
Overall: A+ Would definitely recommend and will be back when in the area. Get the...
